“You shouldn’t. It’s snowing…” she protests, but I just shake my head, gripping her hand tighter in mine as I open that little box with my free hand and show it to her.
The pink stone shines in the dim light, snow falling all around us.
“In this place where you bumped into me and our paths collided for the second time, I promise to love you until my very last breath. Will you marry me, Callie Stewart?”
“Y-yes.” She swipes her finger under her eyes, a soft smile playing on her lips as her hand grips mine. “I’ll marry you.”
I take out the ring and, still holding her gaze, slide it home. Interlocking our fingers, I bring her hand to my mouth and kiss it.
“Now you’re mine.” The corner of my mouth lifts. “Future Mrs. Watson has a nice ring to it.”
“It does.” She crouches down, her gaze falling to the ring, lingering. “But ring or no ring. I’ve always been yours, Hayden. You’ve helped me heal in a way I never thought was possible until coming here. You’re my end game too. I love you, Hayden.”
“Right back atcha, Angel.”
Cradling her cheek, I lean forward and seal my promise with a kiss.
Our love story might not have started the best, and for a while, we lost ourselves. Finding her was unexpected. Falling for her was inevitable, but loving her… Loving her is interminable.
Breaking the kiss, I press my forehead against hers. “I love you, Callie. Now and forever.”
