“Only time will tell, I guess,” I shrug. “We should probably annoy the hell out of Andrew, see if he can get them on the sameteam. Can you imagine that? Us going to the games as WAGs together to cheer the boys, wearing the same jersey and all? It would be like the good ol’ days.”

“You really have your priorities straight,” Yasmin chuckles. “He seems like an okay guy, though.”

I glance at her. “Andrew?”

I didn’t intervene in Hayden’s football career, but he wanted me to meet his agent in case I couldn’t reach him for whatever reason. Andrew Hill seemed like a level-headed guy, and he was a shark in his business. That is until his wife and daughters were in the room, then he turned into one big softy. It was funny to watch. But even so, I didn’t miss the level of respect and awe people had when they talked about him.

“Yeah. I’ve been around when Hayden was talking with other agents, and some of them seemed shady as fuck.”

“I know. It’s a messed-up business, and most people only have their own best interests at heart, but Andrew Hill is solid. He won’t bullshit you, and he really has the player’s best interest at heart.”

“I got that impression too.”

I nudge her with my elbow. “That’s why I’m telling you. We should totally do it. Just imagine it, they’ll play on the same team, we’ll live in the same neighborhood so our kids can play together and all that jazz.”

“Kids?” Yasmin chokes out.

I look at her. “You haven’t thought about it?”

“I mean, I have, but it’s just so soon, don’t you think?”

“I know, but…” The image of Hayden with Edie flashes in my mind, and I swear I can feel my ovaries melt.

“But?”

“It’s hard not to think about it when I see him with Edie.”

“True,” Yasmin laughs as she pulls into the driveway and turns to me. “Look at us, we’re months from finishing college, and here we are talking about babies and husbands.”

“I know.” My phone buzzes in my hand.

Hayden: The flight just got canceled. I’m sorry, Angel.

So much for hoping everything will turn out okay.

“I guess I got this dress for nothing after all.”

CHAPTER FOUR

Hayden

Coach gets to us, his lips pressed in a tight line. “Well, it’s official. Our flight got canceled.”

Just as he says it, there is a loud creak before the announcement is broadcasted out loud, all the flights on monitors turning from delayed to canceled.

“Isn’t there anything that can be done?” one of my teammates loudly asks so he can be heard over the noises of the airport and people’s outrage.

“I’m sorry, boys,” Coach shakes his head. “But we have to sit tight until they give us the green light to fly out.”

Swearing and groans spread through the group and join all the other pissed-off passengers that were stuck with us at the airport.

“Dammit,” I mutter. “What the hell now?”

Rubbing my hand over my face, I turn around, hoping the solution will present itself to me, but I come up empty.

This isn’t how today was supposed to go, and the idea of texting Callie that I won’t make it in the end makes me want to punch something. Today was supposed to be our day.

“Well, that sucks,” Eric says as he sits back down next to me.
