LOOK BUT DON’T TOUCH
JENIKA SNOW
CHAPTER ONE
I was going to go to hell. I knew that as I stared at my best friend’s father, feeling all kinds of…thingshappening in my body.
I chewed on my fingernail as I watched Landen Graff wipe the sweat from his forehead with a bulging forearm.
Good lord, that sight should be illegal.
And when he reached down and gripped the edge of his shirt, pulling the material up and off, showing off all that glistening sweaty male hardness, I bit my lip hard enough to break the skin.
“Dammit,” I hissed and lifted my hand to touch my bottom lip. I looked down at my fingers to see a droplet of blood was on the end of the digit.
“I have to say, I should find it more uncomfortable that you’re always checking out my father.”
I straightened and glanced down at my phone, but the screen was black and it was very clear I hadn’t been on it. So yeah, Anna had caught me staring at her father and nearly having an orgasm because of it.
“What?” I asked with feigned indifference. “I just glanced out real quick.” I looked over at Anna to see her eyebrow cocked and her expression showing she didn’t believe a word I said.
“Bea, you check out my dad every single time you come here.”
I snorted and shook my head but felt my face heat.
“I mean you can lie but…”
“I’m that obvious?”
She started laughing and nodded. Anna set two cans of pop on the table and took the seat across from me.
“I know you’ve been crushing on him since you were seventeen, girl.” She popped the top of her can, ahisssproceeding her words as the carbonation escaped. “And now, three years later, I know it’s hitting harder than ever.” She shrugged, now seeming like she didn’t care.
I glanced back at Landen, and my body jolted when I saw him staring right at me. Or maybe he was just looking in this direction? Maybe the glare from the sun created a cast over the pane so he didn't totally see me staring at him.
But when he slowly grinned and lifted a hand, my heart raced, my face burned, and I glanced away so fast I was humiliated because I’d just snubbed him.
“I’m just looking,” I mumbled and started to doodle.
“Oh my God, dude,” Anna laughed harder. “I’m gonna spray pop out of my nose. “You’re too cute with the ‘just looking’.”
I narrowed my eyes at her.
She sobered and stared at me.
“What?” I straightened, feeling like maybe she was going to lay into me even though she acted like she didn’t care that I found her dad hot.
“He’s single, you know.”
I felt my eyes widen. “W-what?”
She nodded. “Yeah. My dad hasn’t kept female company since he booted that bitch Heather to the curb three years back.”
I glanced back out the window to see Landen carrying a piece of lumber over to the deck he was building.
“You should go out there and talk to him.”
“Anna—“ I said in a shocked tone. “He’s yourfather.” My cheeks were on fucking fire. “And I’m like… over twenty years younger than him. He wouldn’t see me as anything but his daughter’s friend.”
