I pulled her to me and laid my head on top of hers. “I’m not the only one with spiritual eyes. Yours are roaring with a life of their own.” As she cried in my arms, feeling like she had been in them for as long as I’d been walking this Earth, I thanked a God I never spoke to. “Thank you for having me shot, so I could find her on her very last day.”

Had everything I’d gone through happened even hours later… I never would’vefoundmy Elle.

As soon as she heard the vehicles racing down the alley, she spun in my arms and leaned her back to my stomach. Her arms were wide, the exposed box knife in one hand. A guttural growl escaped her throat.

The woman just kept getting hotter.

Pops got out of the passenger side of an SUV, shocked by her actions. His head was tilted as he studied her, his hands in the air in between them. “Easy, girl. I would never hurt that boy behind you. Feel me?”

With such emotion it ripped at my heart, she whispered, “Grey eyes,” then sagged back into me, her face tilting to me. “Your pops.”

Slowly nodding while approaching, he agreed. “Yes, ma’am. I’m the President of the Steel Stallions. They call me Legend.”

Exhaling, Elle retracted the blade. “Sorry for wanting… to kill you.”

Pops looked at me and gaped. “What the hell happened in the last twenty minutes?”

As more brothers, already out of the other vehicle, came around the hood and back of the SUV, I stayed leaning against the wall. My arms around Elle’s waist from behind her, I kept smiling. “Hey, Pops. I’d like you to meet my Old Lady.”

“Thefuck?” He gawked.

The air crackled with tension, but I didn’t think I could be happier as I stood propped against the wall. Elle, on the other hand, was unnerved by all the armed men gawking at her as if they simply couldn’t believe their eyes. Not moving from in front of me, still facing them, Elle lifted her sheathed blade and asked, “Do I still need this?”

The men all jolted, stunned by her question. What I just told them meant hurting her was something they would never even consider. Their eyes darted between each other. So many questions were silently spoken.

“What?” asked Elle.

After a delay, Pops ran his hand down his stressed face. “What did you give him?”

I watched the back of Elle’s head as it tilted. “Drugs? None. Please help him.” She stepped to the side and pointed to my gut, ignoring my hands and arms trying to recapture her. When no one moved, she snarled, “What is wrong with you people? Do something.”

Not even glancing at my wound, Pops grabbed his chest. “Boy, are you seeingbright lightsand shit?”

I pulled Elle to my side and gazed. “Yes, isn’t she beautiful?”

The men with Pops nervously readjusted their stances, all their leather cuts and boots creaking in the quiet alley.

Even though her face was now cradled in my hand, Elle peered over my thumb stroking her cheek and studied the men. “Can someone tell me what’s happening?”

Pops was practically speechless, but managed to say… “He’ssmiling.”

Elle rolled those fabulous eyes of hers. “I know. He’s ridiculous. Been shot, yet keeps giving me that smile.” She tried again to step away from me but braced herself when I yanked her back in. To the onlookers, she said, “Hello? Earth to bikers? Throw your boy in that SUV and get the hell out of here. Theywillcome out here looking for me any second.”

My smile fell. “You mean getusout of here.”

She sighed as if sad reality wasn’t my friend. “Iseehow special you are.” With sympathy, she touched my bearded face. “I swear it. Even if you don’t.Thatis why I can’t go with you. You don’t understand how deadly they are.”

My ego not appreciating her assumption, I licked my upper teeth in a sinister fashion. This woman was clueless as to whom stood in the alley with her. “I may be a walking corpse, but have you noticed Death hasn’t come for me yet?” I leaned my face closer to hers. “That’s becauseImakehimtremble.”

Entranced, her mouth parted. “GoodGod,that was hot.” She blinked, reminding herself, “Mimosas and beer…” then tried my brothers and Pops again. “We seriously have no time. Please take him and go.”

I glared at Pops so he understood the fight he would have on his hands if he dared try to interfere, especially not in my favor.

His light grey eyes pierced Elle and me… then he nodded.

Elle breathed a, “Thank you,” but stopped when Pops, not letting Elle out of his sight, said, “Put her in the cage.”

And there it is.

Elle recoiled. “What? W-Wait—”

Lacking sincerity, Pops told her, “Sorry, Mafia Princess. You’re coming with us.”
