I slipped through the gap in the fence and headed back toward the bar, struggling to fight the tears his callousness had rendered.
I'd asked him to hurt me, not destroy what remained.
I stumbled across the yard, finding Lilith searching for me in the half-empty parking lot.
"Fuck," she admonished, pressing a hand to her chest as I stepped from the shadows. "You gave me a fright."
I linked my arm in hers, craving the contact. "Sorry. I needed some air. Are we heading off?"
"Mm." She guided me through the jumble of parked cars, motorcycles and trucks.
"Audrey wants to run some numbers. Said she has a plan to see us through the pandemic."
I forced Pope from my mind.
"Well, she's the genius. If she says jump, I'll jump."
As we walked under one of the parking lot lights, Lilith glanced at me, her face freezing as she stumbled to a halt.
"Olorun mi!" she gasped in Yoruba. "Who did this to you?"
Her fingers touched a sensitive spot on my neck—no doubt a place where Pope had left his mark.
I covered it with my hand. "No one."
"Someone did this. Who? Tell me!"
I shook my head. "It was consensual, Lil'. No one made me do anything I didn't want to."
Her hands curled into fists, her expression fierce. "You're safe, my Jules. If this happened because a man forced you—"
I shook my head again. "No, no. Nothing like that. I just needed…" I didn't know how to describe the events of the last few hours.
"Needed?"
I sighed. "Don't worry. I learnt my lesson. I won't be seeing him again."
She eyed me, doubt lurking in her eyes. "You're sure you’re okay?"
"Absolutely," I promised.
And I'd had every intention of keeping that promise—until the world ended.
EPILOGUE
Pope
Four years later
I stared at the woman standing in the courtyard of the club's ranch, unable to believe my eyes.
Is this a dream?
"Oh, fuck," I muttered.
Jules stumbled to a halt, her blue eyes wide with shock. "It's you."
Four years. Fourfuckingyears since I'd seen her. Since I'd spanked her. Since I'd fucked her on a picnic table.
