“No, you’re myfiancée,” he snaps. “My life. My existence. The reason this whole fucking empire would crumple if anything were to happen to you.”

I stare at my meal, guilt-ridden and resentful.

Our time together didn’t start like this.

I’d had more freedom at the beginning. I could leave the house without scheduling my plans with Cole or his men first. Without checking in constantly, having a tail, or taking my cell. But that’s all changed.

“Nissa, I would rather die than live through anything happening to you.” He grazes his hand over the top of mine. “Do you understand? My rules are necessary. They won’t be this restrictive forever, but for now, you need to come to terms with the way things are.”

“I can’t do that.”

“Fine.” He shoves to his feet, his chair clattering to the tile. “Get upstairs.”

“Excuse me?”

“Get. Upstairs.” His nostrils flare with the demand.

I blink at him.

“I won’t keep arguing with you, little fox. We’re skipping straight to fucking this time.”

“That won’t solve our problems.”

His jaw ticks. “No, but it will ease my goddamn frustrations. So get upstairs.Now.”

I raise my brows and lower my attention to my meal, forking another bite of beef while my pulse runs rampant.

“You’re playing with fire, Nissa.” He towers above me. “I’ll fuck you right here if you’d prefer.”

My heart flutters. Yes, that’s exactly what I want… But his expensive sheets feel incredible against my naked skin.

“Is that what you’re aiming for? Hard and fast on the table?” He edges closer. “Your hair in my fist, the wine cascading over your breasts?”

Goose bumps awaken along my arms.

God, I hate fighting with him. But holy hell, do I love fucking him like this.

Sex is one thing we’ve never failed. It’s our foundation. Our connection. Our constant.

It may not be the most stable love language, yet I’ll never complain.

“I’m going to count to five,” he growls. “Then I’m fucking you.”

I stab another piece of beef and place it in my mouth.

“One,” he taunts.

I chew. Swallow.

“Two.”

I grab my wine glass and take a haughty sip.

“Three.” He releases the top button of his white-collared shirt. “Four.”

My pulse is crazy in my ears as I gently slide off my heels beneath the table.

“Five.”
