Ashby: Well, I do have to bring your dog back
Carlos: True. But that’s not why I want to see you
Ashby: Oh?
Carlos: I did mention dinner the other day, didn’t I? Or was that just in my head?
Ashby: No, you said it out loud
Ashby: Either that, or we can communicate telepathically
CarlosIf that’s the case, then you know just how badly I want to see you again
Carlos: And not just because you have my dog…
Ashby: OK
Those two little letters made his insides jump. He wanted whatever time she was going to give him. Wanted to find out more about the woman behind that smile that had put the Caribbean sun to shame. And she had just agreed.
Carlos: How about Tuesday? Every week the resort hosts this bonfire, it’s a whole thing. Come
Ashby: Tuesday? As in four days from now?
Blinking, Carlos read her text again. Was that…disappointment in her response? Fuck, he hoped it was.
Carlos: You’re right. Too far away. Come now.
Ashby: lol
Ashby: Tuesday works. We don’t currently have any surgeries scheduled for that afternoon, so I can block it off. And I can bring Mickey to you then. He should be mostly healed by that point.
Carlos: A pretty girl and a dog? Does life get any better?
Ashby: lol
Carlos put his phone down, his heart squeezing at the thought of seeing her again soon. Problem was, as Ashby had pointed out, Tuesday was still four days away. He wasn’t going to last that long. Grabbing his phone again, he snapped a quick selfie, the sunset in the background, hitting send immediately.
Ashby: Pretty
Carlos: Most dudes prefer handsome, but I’ll take pretty
Ashby: I meant the sun setting over the beach. But I guess you’re not bad lol
Carlos: Ouch!
Ashby: lol
Carlos: Same sunset I see every day, so…
Ashby: Jealous. It’s much better than the ones we have back home
Carlos: Where’s home?
Ashby: PNW
Carlos: ummmm, should I know where that is?
Ashby: Pacific Northwest.
