Not that I’d change this one, change Hayden, for anything.
We stay on the dance floor for three full songs before the music changes to something slower, so we grab new drinks from the waiter before sitting down at our table, where Maddox is talking to one of his friends. He looks up when we come and extends his hand to Aly, pulling her onto his lap and pressing a kiss to the top of her head, and I can’t help that little twinge of jealousy I feel at seeing them together, happy and so damn in love.
I’m happy for them, I really am, but damn…
That was supposed to be Hayden and me.
I know I probably sound salty, but damn, I miss him.
I look down at my phone. I was hoping for at least a text message from Hayden, but he’s been MIA since last night. Sighing, I lock the screen and place the phone back inside my purse.
“I think I’m done for tonight.”
Both Yasmin and Aly turn to me. “What?”
“You can’t leave.”
“I’m sorry,” I give them an apologetic smile. “I want to try and call Hayden. He hasn’t been picking up all day, and I’m slowly starting to get worried.”
Aly and Yas exchange a knowing glance before Yas turns to me. “Want me to drive you home?”
“Nah, I think I’ll take a walk.”
Aly’s brows rise. “In the snow? Hell, inthoseshoes?”
“It’s not that long of a walk,” I wave her off. “Besides, I love snow.”
“Are you sure? I can drop you off. I don’t—”
I place my hand on Yasmin’s. “I’m sure. You girls have fun. I’ll see you after the holidays?”
“Text us when you get back home, okay?”
“Of course.” I give them both a hug before slipping between the people.
I stop by the coat check, picking up my coat and sliding it on as I make my way to the door and push it open, the cold December air hitting me in the face. I slide the final button of the coat in place and lift my gaze, only to come to a stop when I see a man standing at the bottom of the stairs.
He’s breathless, his messy hair disheveled, suit wrinkled, and there’s stubble covering his jaw, but damn, he’s the hottest man I’ve seen tonight, which is saying something.
“Hayden?” I breathe, my fingers curling around the railing to steady myself. “What are you doing here?”
CHAPTER SIX
Hayden
“Hayden?” Callie blinks, her wide eyes staring at me like she’s seen a ghost. “What are you doing here?”
I run my hand through my hair, letting my breathing settle down as I stare at her. “I told you I was going to go with you to the Christmas Ball, didn’t I?”
“Yeah, but… the snowstorm? You said your flight was canceled.”
“It was,” I nod. “That’s why we didn’t fly; we drove.”
Those blue eyes widen. “You what?!”
“We drove. I didn’t want to sit down and twiddle my fingers while I waited for the green light to take off, so a few guys and I got permission from the coach to rent a car and drive here. They just dropped me off like five minutes ago.”
“Let me get this straight. You drove all the way from Pittsburgh to Blairwood, so you could attend the Christmas Ball with me?”
