Jack offers me his hand. “Does that work for you? I mean, Theo and I don’t want to—”
I slip my hand in his and cut him off, “Sounds lovely.”
Oh my goodness, I merely thought of her, and now, I sound like my grandmother.
Sounds lovely.
The four of us step outside into the blustery cold with Ben following behind, glaring. His eyes are burning holes into my back as we walk the short distance to our flat, but he won’t say anything. It’s against policy to comment on my life, and even though he’s been with us forever, he’ll never break policy. No matter how much he’d like to.
The streets are covered in a dusting of snow as the frigid wind whips my hair across my face. Momentarily, I regret having walked here tonight... until the heat of Jack’s hand at the small of my back sears my skin through the layers of my clothing. I look up at the gorgeous man, and my heart skips a beat at the desire shining in his eyes. “We’re just a few streets over.” I point toward our flat.
“Okay.” He turns his head for a moment before bringing his eyes back to mine. “Want to tell me why the big guy that’s been watching you all night is also following you home?”
I purse my lips together, trying to figure out how to answer, knowing that Ben is making himself obvious on purpose. Days go by where my security detail isn’t noticed at all. Of course, he chooses tonight to be a pain in my ass.
I turn slightly and glare at Ben.
So much for staying under the radar.
CHAPTER FOUR
Jack
I grew up in a family of rock royalty. My father is one of the biggest rock stars of the past thirty years, and my mother was a soap star before she married my dad. Now she’s a professional ex-wife. I know a bodyguard when I see one, and I clocked Rory’s hours ago. But if she wanted to play coy, who was I to stop her? I wasn’t exactly forthcoming about who I am either.
Hell, I don’t even know if she’s heard of our band. So why bring it up?
But when the guy started following our foursome back to the girls’ place, I had to say something. Rory chews that bottom lip of hers as she throws the big guy a pissed-off look before turning back to me. “So...”
“Listen.” I stop her. “You don’t owe me any explanation. I just need to make sure you’re safe and that guy isn’t some crazy stalker.”
Relief shines in her big eyes. “He’s not a stalker. My family is... high profile and ridiculously overprotective. Ben is my bodyguard.”
I sweep her dark hair over her shoulder and lean down. My lips brush over the shell of her ear, and a visible shiver races down her back.
Something about this woman is making me want things I know I can’t have. Like the ability to wake up in her bed tomorrow and spend the day there, instead of catching a ride out of the country for our next gig.
We’ve been touring for close to a year. It’s amazing and everything I wanted it to be. But one-night stands got old really fast for me. Not so much for Theo. And I’m pretty sure our singer, Brooklynn, has never indulged at all.
“It’s completely up to you, Rory, but I’d like to be the only one guarding your body tonight.” Every delectable inch of it.
She swallows. “I’d like that.”
“So proper.” I stop her in the street and tilt her chin up to me. “Tell me to stop if you don’t want this, Aurora.”
She surprises me when she lifts to her toes and fists the front of my shirt. “Don’t stop, Jack.” She presses her lips urgently against mine. Her entire body vibrates, like she might die if she doesn’t get what she wants.
Her icy hands slide up and into my hair, tugging, causing something in me to snap.
I lift her up as she wraps her thighs around my waist and head for the door Theo and Willa walked through a few minutes ago. She weighs absolutely nothing in my hands as they mold to her body. I move quickly up her steps, and with one hand on the doorknob and the other on her luscious fucking ass, I pull back and look into her eyes. A connection, so intense it catches me by surprise, surges between us and springs to life. “Where am I going, Aurora?”
“Upstairs,” she gasps as she locks her legs tighter around me. “Last door on the right.” Her tongue peeks out and flicks at my ear before she whispers, “Hurry, Jack.”
“Yes, ma’am.” I step through the door and lock it behind me, then think of the bodyguard. “Ben?” I ask.
Aurora takes a deep breath, and her breasts rise against my chest. “He’s fine,” she pants, then tugs my shirt free and runs her hands against my skin.
Jesus. She’s trying to kill me.
