Turning to glare at her, he says, “Willow, meet my cousin Blaze, who’s also one of my bosses. One of the people I keep nothing from. I’m not giving him your stupid fake name. He has no connections to your family.”

“He’s connected to you. So he’s connected to your family.”

“And our families hate each other. Why would we make this wild goose chase you’re running on them any easier?”

Willow groans. Her dark brown hair is in a messy bun that’s too messy, like someone grabbed her by the hair and pulled her out of his house with it.

“Felix, I don’t care about some stupid family feud, do not treat a woman like that in front of me. Do it again and I’ll rip your face off.”

“Finally,” Willow huffs. “Someone with a bit of human decency.”

Gritting his teeth, Felix practically crawls into the back, grabs her seatbelt, and straps her in. “Not another word.”

She rolls her eyes.

“Explanation, please?” I say, already backing out of his driveway. I’m not waiting another second. Not knowing if Brooke is safe is driving me mad.

“She’s David’s maid. Well, that was her way of getting into his house. But I know her. She’s a little princess of one of the bigger crime families back home. They’re always trying to sabotage our business. Watch out for her.”

“I’m not a princess,” she snaps. “And the second we get out of this car, I’m fucking murdering you.”

“Sure, Blue. Sure.”

She unbuckles her seatbelt, glaring daggers at Felix. Before she can do something stupid like attack him while we’re in a moving vehicle, I slam on the brakes. She flies into the back of Felix’s seat with a grunt.

Thankfully, there’s no one else on the road. So when Felix gets out of the car, I just sigh, unlocking the doors so he can yank hers open. He shoves her back, his arm pressed against her throat.

“You’re a piece of shit,” she spits at him.

“A compliment coming from someone who only dates the lowliest scum of the earth. Compared to them, I’m a knight in shining armor. Now. Are you going to cooperate, or am I going to have to knock you out, tie you up, and throw you in the trunk?”

Her eyes widen. “Not again.”

“Then fucking behave.”

She nods, but not before trying to kick him—and failing.

“We don’t have time for this,” I grit out.

Felix yanks the seatbelt over her body again before getting back into the car. I turn on the child locks again before taking off down the road.

“Part of one of the bigger crime families?” I prod.

Felix scrubs a hand over his face. “Yeah. She’s claiming that she ran away from them. But David has worked with her father before. Years ago. So I find it a little hard to believe, considering she comes from a family of liars and cheats.”

“So do you, Grayson.” She kicks at the back of his seat.

He gives her a glare that’s loaded with hate. “Behave.”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if her father ordered her here to try to sabotage us and protect David for some reason. Always getting in our business. The only thing I can’t figure out is how he knew.”

“I told you,” Willow seethes. “I want nothing to do with him. I’m going after David for my own reasons.”

“And yet,” Felix says in a cheerful tone, turning to give her a deadly grin, “you won’t tell me what that business is.”

She sags against the backseat. I swear I hear her murmur, “How could you not know,” but Felix doesn’t hear it, or pretends not to, so I let it go.

“Sorry to drag her along. Can’t trust her on her own. God knows what she’ll do.”
