“You can’t stop me,” he laughed. “I’m eternal. I’m ...”

Jenny attacked from the front, screaming as she came in with spin kicks. She forced Ba’al back, and his grip on the wolves faltered.

While Ba’al’s attention was split, Cass charged from behind, jumping at the demon’s back. She clung to his shoulders and held on while he bucked and tried to get free. Flash watched her pull out a long blade she had scavenged from the fight on the way up and cut wildly at Ba’al’s neck.

Her third strike sliced his jugular. Hot blood poured out across the circle as the demon screamed, falling to his knees. Flash staggered forward, free of the demon’s grip.

“Is it over?” Slade asked.

Cassandra shook her head. “The demon is still here.”

Suddenly, she screamed as the demonic presence wrapped around her. Ba’al screamed, too, a disembodied wailing tearing the air as he attempted to crack Cassandra’s shields.

“You can’t get through!” she yelled, laughing. “You can’t possess any of us. We’re too strong. But you better do something quick. Crenshaw’s body is about to die, and you know what that means.”

“Uh,” Slade mumbled, “what does that mean?”

“It means,” Jenny began with an eye roll, “that if the spirit is in a body when it dies, then it will be trapped and not able to come back.”

“Sounds fine to me,” Flash said, rubbing his back.

Releasing from Crenshaw’s body, Ba’al screamed and whirled around in his demonic form.

“Block your minds,” Cass shouted. “Don’t let him in.”

The air whipped around them like a tornado, stinging and hot. Flash felt like the wind itself was trying to get through the pores in his body. Trying to get inside him, possess him. The only thing he would let take him over was his love for his mate. She was his reason for living, and he would do his best to have her love him.

With his heart full and open ... all anger banished, Flash knew the demon would have no power over him. Nothing was stronger than love.

With no body to possess, the demonic presence fled on the back of the fresh night breeze.

Flash ran to his mate, knowing that Slade was right by his side. The only thing both of them wanted was to hold the woman they loved more than life itself.

And never let go.

Chapter23

Cassandra

Cass fell to her knees. Now that Ba’al was banished, they no longer needed to fear him.

There were still a few demon-possessed people running around who had to be taken care of. The people with the drug in their systems who had been ready to be brainwashed by Ba’al would also need a couple hours for the medication to pass through their system.

For now, Cassandra couldn’t even begin to think of the road ahead. She had never been so exhausted in her entire life. As she sank to the ground, she was sure she was going to collapse, fall flat on her face, and pass out right then and there.

Suddenly, Flash’s arms were around her, holding her up. From behind her, she felt Slade’s steady grip. Both of the men went down on their knees with her, embracing her from both sides. Slade snuggled against her back, resting his head on her shoulder, while Flash hugged her from the front.

If I wasn’t so tired, this could be really hot.

“I love you,” Slade whispered in her ear. “I love you so much.”

“I love you,” Flash said, touching her cheek and looking into her eyes. “I love you more than I’ve ever loved anything, even my damn self.”

Cass laughed softly, realizing tears were flowing down her cheeks. She was relieved and trembling with exhaustion, but her tears were a result of the emotions flooding through her that she couldn’t even name.

“I love you,” she whispered. “Both of you. I was so afraid … finding even one person to accept me as I am seemed like too much to ask. To have two? Unbelievable.”

Slade wrapped an arm around her waist, nuzzling her neck.
