He slipped past the guy and through the front doors, congratulating himself on handling the situation. He wanted to get upstairs to the office areas where he was sure he’d find Cass, and he wanted to do it without getting into any more confrontations.
He took the elevator to the top floor and quickly realized his mistake. The place was filled with construction workers, not office employees. Looked like some remodeling was being done. It would have looked suspicious to push the button and go back down, so he strode purposefully out onto the floor and looked around with a cynical expression on his face.
In the open section of the space, a small crew smoothed wet cement over rebar. He turned to go, but one of the people in the crew looked familiar.
Is it Cass?
He was sure it wasn’t, but his attention was taken all the same. After a minute of drawing a blank, he was ready to go over for a closer look, even if it risked his cover. Before he could, the girl turned, and he saw her face.
Jenny?
She was disguised in a wig and a pair of nerdy glasses, but it was definitely Slade’s sister. Before she noticed him, Flash headed back to the elevator. Luckily, his status as a boss made everyone keep their heads down and ignore him.
He went down a few floors, finally coming to an area that looked like office space. There was no construction going on, just professional people in business suits setting up computers and moving files between cabinets.
Flash abandoned his cardboard tubes and hard hat, straightening his suit as he walked through the lines of desks. If there were dodgy deals going down, it would probably be here, somewhere. He hadn’t gone far when a delicious scent fanned across his nostrils, making his mouth water.
Cass.
He followed the scent to a nearby corner office, where he found her going through a filing cabinet. She was dressed in a tight, knee-length skirt with a plain white blouse, her hair caught up in a neat bun. Flash leaned on the doorway, crossing his arms as he admired the view of her bent over.
He was able to enjoy the show for quite some time before she finally became aware of his presence. Tension streaked through her body, then she whipped around, shutting the door of the cabinet behind her.
“I’m so sorry, sir!” she cried. “I was just ... hey, wait …”
Flash grinned, not moving a muscle as he watched her face switch from shock to fury.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” she muttered, looking around to make sure no one was watching.
Flash shrugged. “Just hanging out. How about you?”
“I’m looking for evidence,” she whispered, hurrying over to him. “Are you seriously just standing there checking out my ass?”
“How could I not?” he murmured, reaching for her. “You were pointing it right at me. An excellent distraction for your cover, I might add.”
“How dare you?” she hissed. “You’ll blow my cover.”
“What was that?” he asked, tilting his head toward her. “I’m hard of hearing. Did you just say you want to blow me?”
“Fuck you,” she snapped. “This is serious.”
“I know what I’m doing,” he assured her. “I can handle this espionage thing.”
Cass covered her face with her hand. “Yes, clearly, because starting a sexual harassment case on a personal assistant is awesome for your cover.”
Flash shrugged. “It probably is. No one’s noticed anything out of the ordinary so far.”
“Just stay out of my way,” Cass said angrily. She pushed past him, and for a moment, Flash was immersed in her wonderful scent. Something about it was even more intoxicating than before.
He took a deep breath and held it in the back of his nose. After a second, a smile of pure pleasure broke across his face.
She fucked Slade.
Even though she’d obviously showered and changed, he could still detect Slade’s scent lingering on her skin. The idea turned him on so much that he had to wait for his cock to go down before following her out onto the main floor.
He noticed her straightaway on the other side of the office area. She was as far away from him as she could get, organizing a set of file folders. He walked toward her, completely forgetting why he was supposed to be there. He was so focused on her hot, luscious scent that everything else had ceased to matter.
“Excuse me,” he said, pausing by her desk. “I thought I told you to work on the new files.”
