Cassandra had a flash of him going at her on a bed, destroying the headboard into small splinters of wood because he had fucked her so hard. She felt the sharp movement of arousal crawling up her thighs again and was ultimately thankful that she had chosen to wear the heels that made her feel like an absolute sex goddess.

She motioned toward the car with her chin. “Let’s get going then. I’m starving.”

Strapped into the passenger seat, Cassandra realized she was putting herself into quite a predicament. Her attraction to both Flash and Slade was undeniable, and they had agreed to work together. Should they show her any affection at all, she was going to have difficulty resisting the feel of them between her legs and in her heart.

Chapter7

Cassandra

Cassandra couldn't believe what she was doing but told herself to go with the flow for the moment. She wasn’t a person who turned away from dates, far from it. They were a way for her to wind down and let go of all the malevolence and darkness that swirled in her mind and body. If sex was on the table, she often took it if she was in the mood, but it never lasted beyond that.

Sex was fine, but the last time she had given herself to someone, it had made her feel like a right idiot. She considered herself to be a relatively intelligent individual, so the fact that an attractive man had managed to pull the wool over her eyes bothered her.

She thought about how warm she felt despite wearing a skirt and a thin blouse that was nearly transparent. Flash had taken them to a bustling bar and grill where they chatted about her work, and she felt herself fall into a comfortable pace.

She still wanted to be careful. The fire of her attraction to the man was always on the edge of her mind.

“So you got into this work because of your family?” Flashed asked, chowing down on red-hot chicken wings.

Cassandra held a burger in her hand, nodding and covering her mouth to respond.

“It’s been in my family for generations,” she said, having to holler a bit over the voices and music of the bar. “So I didn’t really have a choice when it came down to it.”

Flash picked at his teeth, a sight that wasn’t exactly meant for a calendar pose, but he attracted her all the same. He was pure animalistic impulse, and there was something about that she was envious of.

He frowned, looking like his brows were going to leave a scar on his handsome, scruffy face.

“Would you have chosen it if you had a choice?”

Cassandra finished the burger, looking beyond the hunk in front of her to feign thoughtfulness.

The truth was that she didn’t really know who she was beyond being a demon hunter. In a way, she was thankful for the aristocratic family history that had gifted her the genetic set of skills that made her job so easy.

But on the other hand, she hated it sometimes, usually in the depth of night when she crawled into bed alone, aching from a day’s battle.

“I think so,” she finally responded, peering down at her empty plate. “I’ve got the skills, so I may as well use them for some good, right?”

Flash wiped his hands sloppily with the napkins at their table, then placed one forearm over the other. He leaned forward with a smirk that nearly sent her panties flying off her body.

“I hear that most demon hunters work alone,” he said slyly. “You are one of the few, I reckon.”

Cassandra straightened her back against the seat of the booth, her walls going up.

“You heard?” she said, raising the beer glass to her lips.

“Yes,” he hissed. “So why might that be, do you think?”

She rolled her eyes dramatically, ignoring the rapid beat of her heart that only increased the longer he stared at her.

“I work better alone,” she said, trying not to mutter. “I find that working with other people often gets in the way of my abilities, my plans, or the way I operate. Not everyone is able to adjust to my …” she trailed off, caught off guard by the sight of his hulking arms.

“Your personality?” he nearly barked.

She flicked her eyes at him, intending to snarl, but the impulse disappeared just as fast as it had come. She shifted in her seat, crossing one leg over the other.

“Yes. My personality can put some people off, I suppose.”

Flash ran a hand through his messy hair, and she watched him, unabashedly hypnotized by his every movement.
