He grinned. “I’ll take that over indifference any day of the week.”

Ellen sighed. “I suppose I’d better get used to this,” she said, reaching out to muss his hair. In the tight space it brought her closer to him. “And how bloody good you smell,” she added, her voice getting lower.

Kane again waited until he was sure she was sure, before he moved closer and kissed her. Her lips were so damn soft, and she moved them over his so confidently, that he wondered how he’d waited until now.

She put both hands in his hair and pulled him to her, turned her head, and deepened the kiss. When their tongues touched, he backed up just long enough to breathe her name into her mouth. Her hair was tickling his face, her back warm and sleek under his hand, which was now free to roam. She moaned a little and touched the back of his neck, which sent a jolt of heat right down into his gut.

Ellen broke off the kiss. “Bloody handbrake,” she said in her normal voice, and rearranged herself. Kane needed some rearranging too, but it wasn’t going to happen in this little car.

“I’d better get out of here,” he said.

“Okay.” Her slightly swollen lips and half-fallen hair made him need to rearrange himself even more.

He opened the door. “I’ll call you.” He started to get out but got back in again. “When I say, I’ll call you, you know that I’ll probably be bothering you in about...” He ostentatiously looked at his watch. “Eight hours. So sleep well. Hope you’re hungry for brunch.”
