“I want to tear down the barriers between our worlds and find you.”

Fingers gripping his fur, I raise my hips, rocking on him, slicking him and dragging my clit along the ridge of his head. “What would you do when you found me?”

“Everything.” He sucks my nipple into his mouth. “Anything.”

Raising his head, he meets my eyes. “Even just being with you would be enough.”

He makes a tsking sound with his tongue and shakes his head at me. “One day…. I’m going to have to find a way to believe you’re really mine.”

“You don’t have to believe something for it to be true.” I whimper as he presses into me.

“I don’t.” He nods, eyes closed and jaw tense. “But that doesn’t mean it isn’t difficult.”

I have to snort at that. “Everything in this realm is difficult.” And then I gasp as his next thrust fills me completely.

“I promise to clear any obstacle from your path. We will find our way through this. And… I promise that I will give you as many children as you want.”

He thrusts deep and holds himself there, as if to make a point.

I can’t help but laugh. “Let’s start with the one, okay?”

He hums as if he’s not satisfied with that, and when he rolls away from me, it’s to lean over the edge of the bed.

There’s a faint snap, and he pulls an iris from the tangle of flowers growing beside the bed. When he draws it over my stomach, he asks, “Can we call her Iris?”

“What if it’s a boy? Isn’t that how this is supposed to work?”

“Do you want a boy?"”

“I want whatever it is, because they’ll be a piece of you I get to keep when I have to be in the mortal world.” I don’t know what Jack says as his lips descend on mine, but when his hips move, I can’t be bothered to care. I let him love me and love him in return—every way I know how.

Broken Promises

I doze against Jack, snuggling against his side and hugging him close as he swirls his fingers over my back.

It wouldn’t be so terrible to be stuck here. To be like this forever.

But a prison filled with pleasure is still a prison.

“I don’t like when you’re unhappy.” Jack pulls me over him, so I sit astride his waist, but he doesn’t draw me down onto him.

“Your mothers aren’t making it easy on us.”

“No, they aren’t.” He looks up into the darkness overhead. “I wonder if I could send Death for Juun…. I wonder if anyone’s ever tried.”

“Trying isn’t going to solve any of our problems.”

I sink against his chest and snuggle close. Maybe I can convince myself this is just a night we can share together before I go back to the Valley and do what needs to be done.

He goes stiff, and not in the good way.

I don’t pick myself up. “What is it?”

Jaw tense, he lets out a long breath. “They want you back.”

“Just me?”

“Yes.”
