Walkinginto the hospital room and seeing the bruises on her face and her hooked up on the machines, makes me want to go and find Patrick’s body and do a fuck of a lot worse than what I did already.

“You’re here,” she rasps, giving me a smile.

The other women get to their feet and give her a kiss on the cheek, saying their goodbyes and assuring her they’ll see her tomorrow.

I climb into the bed beside her and pull her close to me.

“Are you okay?” she asks me as soon as we settle in.

“Yeah, baby, I’m fine. They’re gone now. They can’t hurt you again,” I promise her, and press a kiss against her head.

She sobs against me, her tears soaking through my shirt and into my skin. “I’m sorry. I never wanted you to feel the pain of losing someone else you love,” she cries, her tiny hand clinging to me.

Jesus. She’s fucking gutting me. “That’s not your fault, Dest. This has been a long time coming. But him coming after you was the final nail in the coffin.”

She stays silent, and I know she’s blaming herself.

‘Oh, and baby, you should know thatyouare my priority.” She tenses in my arms. “My fucking everything.”

She raises her head from my shoulder and looks up at me with those gorgeous emerald eyes shining with tears. “Finny,” she whispers.

“I love you, Dest. I fucking love you. You cannot leave me. I swear to all that’s holy, without you, I’d be fucking dead inside. I’d lose everything.”

My words only make her cry harder. “God, Psycho Boy…” She swallows hard. “I love you.”

I grin. Fuck, it’s so good to hear that. “Good, because I fucking love you.” I press a soft, chaste kiss against her lips, glad they’re no longer blue, not even a tinge.

“When you get out of here, you’re coming home to live with me.” My tone brooks no argument. I'm not living without her.

“Finn—”

I shake my head hard and fast. “Not happening, Destiny. I thought you were fucking dead.Dead,” I snarl, the memories still too fresh. “I want you with me.”

She gingerly raises her hand and caresses my face. “Okay,” she whispers. “Where you are, I am.”

I pull her close to me once again. “Sleep, baby. I got you.”

I’m not going to be able to let her out of my sight any time soon. I’m scared. Fucking scared that she’ll be taken from me again. I’ll never let that happen though. I’ll kill anyone who even tries.

Destiny

Two weeks later

“You sure you’re up for this?” Finn asks me for the third time.

I glare at him. “I’m not an invalid, Psycho Boy. I’ve got a broken leg. I’m fine.”

He sucks in a sharp breath. “A broken leg?” he snarls. “You almost fucking died. You had to have surgery.” He runs a hand through his hair.

“You need to take another deep breath. All this stress isn’t good for you. You’re already pushing middle age. The last thing we need is for you to die from stress.” I hide my smile as I hobble toward the door.

He takes a few deep breaths, and I know he’s trying to calm himself down. The past two weeks have been crazy as hell. I had to stay in hospital for a week, and Finn made sure I wasn’t alone for a single second. He spent every night with me, cradling me tightly in his arms. When he had to leave, he made sure at least two of his men were with me, not to mention the women from his family were there, too.

“You test my patience, baby,” he growls as he catches up to me and slides his arm around my shoulders, pulling me into his body so I can lean on him if I need to.
