Page 80 of Hateful Union

“Ladies and gentleman,” Jer says. “The party is over. Thank you all for coming. Please see yourselves out.” He nods his head slightly and he moves in the direction that Da, Callie, and her family have gone.

The house empties immediately, no one but Jer’s men staying around. No doubt they want to make a quick escape in case anything goes down.

I reach for my cell phone and dial Raylee.

“Hey,” her voice is soft. Fuck, I miss her.

“Mo stór,” I whisper. Glad to hear her voice.

“What’s happened?” She never misses anything. She’s too astute.

I give her a run down on what’s happened, just as I see my ma striding her fucking arse back into the house. God, she has a death wish.

“God, is she okay? How’s your dad?”

“I’m not sure, but I’d say he’s feeling homicidal.” I know that feeling all too fucking well. Seeing Raylee beaten it’s something I wouldn’t want any of my family to experience.

“No doubt,” she whispers. “Keep an eye on him. When are you coming home?”

I smile. She misses me. “Soon,mo stór,soon.”

I hear her sigh of relief. “Okay, good. It’s not the same here without you.”

“I’ll be back before you know it,” I promise her. “I’ll call you later, love you.”

“And I love you, be safe, Mal.”

“Always,mo stór.”I end the call just as Ma sidles up beside me. “What do you want?”

She sniffs haughtily. “You’re my son, Malcolm. You should show some respect.”

I glare at her. “Not going to happen. You lost every bit of it I ever had from you. You’re nothing but a bitch. Your kids are nothing but pawns to you.”

She glares at me, her lips twisted into an ugly snarl. “Your father never wanted me. I did what I had to.”

I scoff. Jesus, this woman is fucking crazy if she truly believes that. “Whatever happened between you and da should never have gotten in the way of you being our Ma. The way you treated Holly is unforgivable, but the shit you’ve done to the rest of us.” I shake my head. “You’ll burn for that.”

Her grin is sinister. “Your father will never kill me.”

“You truly believe that, ma, then more fool you.”

The door behind us opens and Jer and his family step out. Maverick looking ready to kill someone. I glance to my left and see that Ma has gone.

“What happened?” I ask. Noting that neither da or Callie exited with them.

“Your ma had Callie attacked,” Jer tells me and then he goes on to explain everything that my ma did. Christ, there’s no way that she’ll survive the night. “I’m sorry, son, but that woman has gone too far.”

I don’t bristle at him calling me son anymore.

“I know, and I have a feeling, Da will be the one to do it.” There’s no way that Da will let her get away with this shit. He’s found the evidence she had on Danny. There’s nothing holding him back any longer.

The door to the office opens and Callie walks out. She gives me a small smile and I see the stitches in her lip. Fuck, that arsehole worked her over pretty good. Ma’s fucked for organizing someone to do that.

“Areyou sure you don’t want me to come with you?” I ask my da. He’s already got ma holed up somewhere, his right hand man Michael pulled her from the house almost forty minutes ago and I know that it was the last time I’d ever see her again. Oddly enough, I’m okay with that.

“No, Mal, go on home,” he instructs me. His tone filled with anger and determination. He’s in boss mode.

Do I want to watch my ma get killed? No, but my Da doesn’t need to do this alone. “Are you sure?”
