WHAT THE FUCK? Wrath was really interested in Sophia. Part of me figured it was just Lettie pushing him into taking Sophia on his bike, or at least that’s what I hoped. My fingers turned white from my grip on the steering wheel as I listened to her and Wrath set up a night to have drinks. My earlier victory of seeing her jealousy over Claudia snuffed out. I pulled in front of the clubhouse, trying to keep my anger down with Rowena in the truck. But, when I heard Sophia end the call with an enthusiastic “I can’t wait” and a sigh. I couldn’t hold back.

“Slut,” I snarled low so only she could hear as I jumped out of the truck.

Sophia was out of my truck in the blink of an eye rounding the bumper. “What the hell did you just call me?” she demanded, her eyes narrowed slits.

“You heard me,slut.” My jealousy and anger are taking over my mouth.

Before I knew it, her knee connected with my balls, causing me to bend in pain, grabbing my truck for support. “You have a lot of nerve calling me that, especially with the company you keep, asshole. You are more than welcome to see Roe anytime but stay the hell away from me,” she hissed. Sophia took Rowena out of the truck and stormed inside.

This was not my greatest moment. I knew I was wrong to say what I did, but my mouth wouldn’t listen. That love and hate war continues to battle it out over Sophia, and hate came out as the victor.

I took a deep breath as I straightened back up; Jesus, she kneed me hard. My nuts were throbbing. I went to the still open door of the truck and unhooked Rowena’s car seat, knowing Sophia would need it, and I had my own. I went inside seeing Sophia sitting with Silver and Jane, Roe asleep on her lap. I set the car seat down without a word, and none of the occupants at the table offered any, aside from Jane giving me a small smile. But I know Sophia didn’t tell Silver what I called her, or I wouldn’t be standing. Silver may be older and less muscular than me, but the man knew how to fight dirty.

I walked over to the bar. I needed a drink. After Johnny gave me a beer, I sat on a stool and tried to pretend Sophia wasn’t sitting in the room even though I could hear her talking and laughing. So, when Jen came behind me, wrapping her arms around me, I let her, knowing Sophia was watching. Of course, I shouldn’t use Jen this way, but Sophia is turning me into a dick with the hurt she caused me because I still loved her.

“You need me, Lord?” Jen whispered in my ear.

“Sure, baby,” I murmured, taking her hand and walking out of the room. I knew all along that I was going to ditch her outside the door. I intended only to hurt Sophia and didn’t want any company, especially females. Not to mention my balls still hurt.

Once I got rid of Jen with the excuse I needed to do something I had forgotten about, I called my parents, who were excited just like I knew they would be and were already planning a Thursday trip. I will have to let Sophia know so I can have Rowena that day. Then, I went out to the garage, rolling my bike out; I needed some wind therapy.

CHAPTER FOUR

I FELT HISeyes on me. I managed to avoid Rowen;for the most part, he would come and get Roe a few hours every day to spend time with her. But, the fact that we both are working at the same place makes it hard to avoid him. It’s my second night working at The Unlimited. So, I was surprised when I saw Rowen walk into the club on Tuesday night, my first night here. I thought he worked the Scarlett, but Lettie said he switched because of better hours since he now had Roe.

I’m working my tables as Rowen leans against the wall watching me. I refuse to look at the big dummy, but I can feel his gaze as it follows me around the room. I’m still pissed over him calling me a slut. I couldn’t believe it when I heard it come out of his mouth. He had some nerve and then left the room with Jen, and I’m not trying to be a bitch or slut shame, but she sleeps around, but with her, it’s okay.

And it was like a stab in the gut watching them leave the room.

When you lose the love of your life, everyone tells you to move on, and there is someone else out there, the hurt will pass over time. But it’s not true. The pain stays with you, and the love never dies. Rowen was all I ever wanted in a man; he was handsome, funny, kind, caring, and sexy as hell.

Or so I thought.

“You’re new here?” I turned to see a young woman sitting at the bar asking the question, and holy Brittany Spears. This woman could be her double. She was dressed professionally in a pencil skirt, white blouse, and heels.

“Yeah, I just started yesterday. I’m Sophia Cole,” I answered.

The woman smiled. “Oh, You’re Silver’s daughter. Lettie told me you came back. I’m Mandy, Cameron’s wife or Soldier as most know him.”

I knew Soldier. He was one of my bosses here at the club. I vaguely remember him from years ago. “It’s nice to meet you, Mandy,” I replied, giving her a friendly smile; the woman screamed sexy and sweet. And in the short time I have been around Soldier, he never smiles or talks much for that matter.

I take that back; Soldier approached us with a big smile on his face for Mandy. “Hey, Dove, are you ready?” Soldier asked her, leaning down to kiss her.

“Yeah, Cameron, let’s eat. I’ll talk to you again soon, Sophia,” Mandy said, taking Soldier’s hand and heading for the door. That couple screamed light and darkness.

I went back to work, so far I liked working here, the tips have been good. And The Unlimited was always crowded with people dancing and socializing, and the club had a retro feel with its glowing colors and clean lines. I had been a waitress and bartender the last few years; the hours were flexible enough that I could, with the help of my Aunt Judy, take care of Roe. That was until Aunt Judy started getting arthritis really bad, and she couldn’t help as much. But now I had dad, Rowen, and my friends here so I would have no shortage of help.

I stole a quick glance at Rowen, who was talking with Claudia. And the way she was dressed was almost indecent. I’m not a prude and love to dress sexy, but shit, leave some to the imagination. Claudia wore a sheer see-through skirt with a white thong, a mesh top with nothing underneath, stocking, and stripper heels. I looked away before Rowen saw me look. I knew he would put on a show if he thought I saw or cared. So, I focused on pulling in some big tips.

“Take a break, Sophia,” Viking yelled over the music.

Giving him a thumbs up, I headed toward the break room when I ran into a hard body. “I’m sorry I didn’t see you,” I hurried to say.

“Sophia Cole?” a deep voice asked.

I looked up at a familiar face. “Marcus, wow, it’s been a while,” I said. Marcus Humphry was my boyfriend before Rowen. Marcus had sandy brown hair and green eyes and seemed to wear a constant smile, and he was still fit as ever.

“Over three years. You look great,” Marcus said, his eyes going over my body with appreciation. “I don’t see a ring, so are you free to get a drink with me to catch up?”
