But that is water on the bridge; what’s done is done. Am I taking Rowen back? No. I’m not ready for that, but the sex with Rowen, there is nothing like it; his dick feels like it’s tearing you in half, and I can’t get enough. The first time I saw his dick, I was scared but hooked once I got a taste. And his muscled body covered in tattoos was hot. After the first time, we didn’t speak. I let Rowen pull me into the shower, where we had sex against the shower wall, then we moved back to the bed, where Rowen made love to me, going slow. The only talking we did was the dirty talk during sex; we both loved it. Finally, we both fell asleep.
He didn’t use protection, but I was on the pill, and Rowen said he hadn’t been with anyone else, at least inside anyone else, and I believed him. Rowen was a lot of things, but a liar he’s not. I traced the scratches I left on his chest and stomach, easy to see over his tattooed body. I can only imagine what his back and ass looked like this morning. Rowen drove me wild. It was an animal attraction, for sure. Finally, Rowen started stroking my hair, letting me know he was awake.
“Sophia, we need to-” Rowen was cut off as a knock came on my door. Who could that be this early it was barely eight. Rowen and I moved to get up, and I went into the bathroom for my robe. Rowen threw his sweats on and answered the door before I could. I hope it wasn’t dad. But I heard Rowen say, “Shadow?”
What was Shadow doing here?
“Lord?” Surprise in his voice. “I need Sophia downstairs. The police are here and want to question her about something.”
The police? “What do they want to talk to Sophia for?” Rowen asked.
“They won’t tell me shit; they will only talk to Sophia. You know how they operate.” Shadow looked behind Rowen at me. “Get dressed and come down and talk to them so I can get them out of my clubhouse,” Shadow grumbled, turning and walking away.
What in the world? I started toward the door; my robe was fine; it covered most of my body. Rowen was right behind me. “I’m coming with you, Sophia. Do you have any idea what they could want?” He asked, keeping step with me as we went down the stairs.
“None, I’m as clueless as you,” I said, rounding the corner and seeing the two police officers standing in the common room along with several club members, including my dad; great, it was apparent what Rowen and I had been doing. Rowen was only wearing sweatpants and hair mussed from my hand's god only knew what I looked like this morning.
I walked up to the officers. “I’m Sophia Cole; what’s this about?” I asked.
The older of the two answered. “I’m officer Gray. Last night, we found Marcus Humphry dead in his home.” I gasped at his words as he continued. “He was shot through the heart.”
“What does that have to do with Sophia,” My dad snapped, coming to stand on the other side of me.
“There was a text on his phone from you, Ms. Cole wanting to meet with Marcus, and he agreed, wanting to meet you last night. Did you meet him last night?” I felt Rowen stiffen next to me.
“I did text him, but I didn’t receive a response, at least not before I went to bed. So I assure you I don’t know anything about what happened to Marcus,” I insisted. Stunned that someone had killed him and why.
“We’re not saying you did, but we have to ask where you were last night.”
“Sophia was in bed with me all night,” Rowen said beside me. “If you want, you can test under her fingernails, and you will find my skin,” he said to my horror, pointing to the fresh scratches I made all over his body. My dad growled beside me but would say nothing while the police were there.
I heard quiet laughter around the room. I know I had to be twenty shades of red. Damn Rowen. And why were all the men in here anyway?
Officer Gray cleared his throat. “That won’t be necessary. We just needed to verify her whereabouts' to exclude Ms. Cole. Do you know if he had any enemies or who would do something like this to him?”
“No, I hadn’t seen him in years until the other night when we exchanged phone numbers to catch up. So I have no clue who would do this,” I said.
The officer handed me a card. “If you think of anything, give us a call. If we have any other questions, we will be in touch.” Shadow walked over to usher the police officers out. I looked around the room where about ten members sat, smirking their eyes at Rowen and me. And there in the corner was Jen, giving me a stare made of jealousy, apparently incapable of minding her own business.
“I will talk with you later, Sophia,” my dad said, not happy with me. I had planned on keeping the fact that I had slept with Rowen a secret; now, everybody and their mother would know.
I turned to head back up the stairs. I needed time to process the fact that I had slept with Rowen and just found out Marcus was dead. “Wait, Sophia,” Rowen said, cornering me before I could go upstairs.
Sighing, I stopped waiting on him to speak. “Why would you text Marcus?” he asked, a hint of anger in his eyes.
I’m too tired for this shit. “If you must know, I wanted to talk to him about that video. Anything else?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Yeah, we need to talk. I know this isn’t a good time, but we will talk, Sophia. I’m not going anywhere,” he said forcefully, leaning down to kiss my lips quickly before taking the stairs two at a time and disappearing around the corner.
These are the times I miss mom. I could talk to her about anything. She never judged and was always supportive and full of advice. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of her in some way. Shaking myself out of my thoughts, I took the stairs. I needed a shower. Rowena would be back before I knew it. I missed my little Roe and would be glad to see her.
AFTER LAST NIGHTI had no doubt I could win back Sophia. The one thing she cannot deny is that we were meant to be together. Her eyes held the truth of her feelings even if she refused to admit it to herself. For the first time in three years, I felt whole; being inside Sophia was like coming home, and I was not leaving.
I don’t like this thing with Marcus. Someone killed him, and my gut says it’s related to Sophia. I just need to figure out how. So I decided to give Sophia a little space today to absorb everything. Plus, I was going to start house hunting today. I had five hours before Roe would be home, and I wanted to spend every minute finding the perfect place for our family.
And we would be a family.
Once I showered and dressed, I went to see Kickstand, finding him in his office. I went in, shutting the door. “What’s up?” Kickstand asked, pushing his glasses up onto his head.
