I will take him being indifferent to his anger, and once Roe was used to him, I could stay far away from Rowen. Unfortunately, my mental health couldn’t handle being close to him daily. I sighed, wiping Roe’s face and standing. I needed to get her ready and psych myself up for this afternoon.
CHAPTER THREE
IT WAS GOINGto be a long day. I had planned on going onthe ride today and taking Rowena to the park tomorrow after breakfast. But, when I heard Lettie trying to put Sophia on the back of Wrath’s bike, I fucking saw red. I was not going to let that happen. I may not want Sophia back in my life, but I sure as fuck wasn’t going to be able to handle watching her with Wrath. So, I did the only thing I could by roping Sophia into going to the park.
Being near Sophia was torture in its truest form. She still wore the same perfume, a soft musk that drove me insane and brought back memories. Luckily I had Rowena to distract me. My little girl was not only beautiful, but she was also bright, and she had the same vibrancy as Sophia. And she took to me like I had always been there, accepting me as her dad.
I pulled my black Dodge Ram 3500 to the front of the clubhouse, seeing Sophia and Rowena waiting on me, a car seat sitting beside them. Sophia had changed into cutoff jean shorts which made her long-toned legs look sexy, Sophia was tall at five-eight and had legs for days, and the pink tank top she wore stretched around her 34 DDs. Yes, I remember. I remember everything about Sophia. My cock started to grow in agreement. Being with her this afternoon would test me for sure. But then, I focused on the adorable toddler next to her. It was amazing how much Rowena looked like me. My mom was gonna flip when she saw her for the first time.
Before I could even get out, Sophia had the back door of my truck open and was preparing to buckle the car seat. “Hold up, Sophia. I want to see how you do that,” I said, coming up behind her and taking Rowena in my arms. Even though her back was to me, I knew she rolled her eyes along with the little huff she gave. Though I doubted I would pay attention with her ass bent over in front of me. In that position, I saw a hint of curvy butt cheek.
Remember the video, I told myself.
“It’s pretty simple,” she said, showing me the correct way to buckle the seat. “And if you forget, there will be instructions with the new seat you buy.”
Yeah, I’m gonna need those instructions. I didn’t see anything past Sophia as she wiggled around, putting the seat in my truck. I handed her Rowena, who was fascinated by the patches on my cut, trying to pull them off. I watched as Sophia buckled Roe into her seat and gave her a toy out of the bag she carried. And then she turned to those blue eyes on me. “All set. Do you want to buy the seat before or after the park?” she asked.
“What do you suggest?”
“I would do before because the park will wear Roe out, and you do not want to take a cranky Rowena into the store, trust me.” Sophia laughed, shutting the door and opening the front door of the truck, climbing in.
I walked around, getting behind the driver’s seat. Sophia surrounded me; her presence, her smell, that unnamed something that was only Sophia. It caused my anger to surface, wondering why she ruined what we had. My jaw locked to keep me from asking her why because I didn’t want to start shit in front of Rowena. I put the truck in drive and headed toward Target. Neither of us talked; the silence was only broken by Rowena chattering to herself in the back.
I JUST WANTEDthis day to end. Rowen seemed okay when weput the car seat in, but he shut down on me once in the truck, back to being angry. We stopped at Target, and I pointed out the correct car seat. Rowena walked out with several new toys that Rowen insisted she should have, even though I told Roe only one toy. Now I’m sitting on a bench in the park watching Rowen and Roe play. I want to keep my distance because I don’t want Roe to get used to us as a unit.
I’m trying not to admire how damn good Rowen looks. The first time I saw him that night in the clubhouse, he made my mouth water. And the sex, God, the sex was incredible. Rowen ruined me for any other man in that department. I’ve wanted to test that theory on many occasions, but between being a single mother and working, there was never the time. But now there would be, and I wouldn’t be sitting around pining over that jackass. I fully intended to take advantage of Lettie’s matchmaking.
“Sophia, is that you? Oh, my God, it is.” A woman’s voice shouted at me.
I looked up to see Claudia Simmons, a girl I used to hang out with and who I suspected only used me to get into parties at the clubhouse. “Hi Claudia, How are you?” I asked politely. Even though I had counted her as a friend, something about her always seemed off to me.
“How long has it been, two, three years,” she asked. She was talking loudly; why?
“Three, I’ve only been back a few days. I’m here at the park with Rowen and our daughter Roe.”
“Daughter? I didn’t know Lord had a daughter. You know I work at the Scarlett, and he has never said a word about a daughter,” she mewled. Everything about this woman was fake, and I wasn’t in the mood. I could read this chick a mile away; she had a thing for Rowen.
“Long story, maybe he’ll tell it to you,” I mocked, wishing she would leave. Rowen worked for the strip club. I should have known.
“I’m sure he will. He usually watches my show, so after; maybe I’ll ask,” Claudia smirked, her eyes going to where Rowen stood with Roe. Rowen looked over to where we stood but didn’t even show an inkling of interest in Claudie when she yelled and waved, “Hey, Lord, I missed you during my set last night, but I’m sure I’ll see you tonight.” Rowen looked completely confused, his brows knitting together.
Claudie Simmons was full of shit.
“Well, I guess I’ll see you around, Sophia,” Claudie said, walking away with quick steps. That was weird. Why was she here at the park anyway? This was a playground, not where single people usually hung out.
Rowen made his way over, holding Roe, who was tired; she had been playing for over an hour. “Why was Claudia here?” Rowan asked.
“She was surprised to see me back,” I replied, not saying anymore on the subject. I didn’t want to appear like him watching Claudie strip affected me. I would not give him the satisfaction of ever knowing I still cared.
“That was all?”
“Yes, but if you’re unsure, you can ask her tonight after her show.” Dammit, it came out before I shoved it back in my mouth.
With a small smile, he said, “Maybe I will.”
“It looks like Roe is worn out; we better head back,” I said, refusing to show emotion to what he said. He wanted me to be jealous.
We loaded up, and Rowen started the drive back to the clubhouse. My phone rang. I looked at the number, not recognizing it, but it was local, so I answered it. When I heard the voice on the other end, a big smile came on my face; this was perfect. “Hey Wrath, no, this isn’t a bad time.”
