I lean toward Archer, jump to my toes and brush my lips to his cheek.
Then I leave the room.
The door shuts and I freeze in place.
I want to hear what they have to say.
“She’s going to run,” Archer says.
“Of course she is,” Cullen says. “She’s stubborn. And beautiful.”
“Of course she’s stubborn and beautiful,” Archer says. “I want to keep her safe.”
“So you can kill her later?”
“What do you want to do here, Doyle?” Archer asks. “Fight with me? Or keep Jaci safe for now?”
“You know what happens next,” Cullen says. “We can’t stop her.”
“So we follow her,” Archer says.
I bite my lip.
I nod.
They know me well by now.
They know I’m going to go check on Faye.
Chapter 56
What is my first memory of Faye?
That question hits me and I can’t let it go.
I sit in the passenger seat of the expensive SUV.
Cullen is driving.
Archer follows in his own SUV.
These two won’t even share a vehicle.
I think about Faye.
My first real memory of her…
She comes home from a late shift.
I’m really young.
I fell asleep on the couch because I was afraid Faye wasn’t going to come home.
She’s in short shorts. A long jacket. I can see the jacket is open and she’s wearing what looks like a bikini.
That doesn’t make sense to me.
Why would a nurse wear a bikini?
