“Of course.”
“Good.”
I climb into the golf cart and the ride toMakson Ridgeis in silence.
I sip my coffee.
I look at the leaves.
There’s not many left on the trees.
The air will get colder.
It’ll get snowier.
I don’t know what anything looks like in terms of the future.
I hate that feeling.
A feeling that I don’t hate?
The feeling I get when I get toMakson Ridge.
And the feeling I get when I see Seth standing on the porch.
Chapter 34
Seth looks at me and goes into the house.
“Seth!” I yell as I try to hurry toward him.
I know he can hear me.
He still goes into the house anyway.
I watch the door shut and I feel almost abandoned.
Nothing is going to stop me from getting to Seth.
I try to picture him killing someone… and I just can’t do it.
I know he’s done it many times.
It’s just…
I get to the steps.
I rush up to the porch.
The front door opens and Laz comes outside.
He’s got a plate of food balanced on his massive right hand.
He shuts the door behind him.
“Don’t try this,” I say.
“I made something for you to try.”
