“Which is why you said no to me when I text you?” I ask cutting her off.

“You got it.”

“You’re a little young to be taking over a business though, does your Dad still get involved?” I watch as a sadness takes over and the smile from earlier has completely disappeared. “I’m sorry Darcy I didn’t want to upset you, forget I asked.” I take a sip of my cappuccino and look out the window.

“It’s fine,” I turn my head to look at her but she looks away now. “My Dad has depression. He had an accident a couple of years ago and left him so he couldn’t work. His depression is really bad, I keep trying to get him to come to the garage and maybe do some of the admin, you know just to get him out of the house... but he won’t,” she gives me a sad smile and drinks her coffee.

“Wow, I’m sorry. It must be a lot to take on?” She raises an eyebrow at me. ”Ah shit. I didn’t mean that the way it came out, honestly.”

“It’s fine, really,” Darcy says laughing.

We stare at each other across the table, her face pulls into a smile, which makes me smile. I don’t know how long I’ll be able to keep this ‘friends’ business up. I look over her features and see some froth on the tip of her nose from her coffee. I reach across the table as she follows the path my finger is taking.

“You have some froth on your nose,”

“Ohhh.”

I wipe it off for her and smile again. Her blush rises over her cheeks, it’s adorable.

This girl is going to kill me.

DARCY

His whole face lights up with his smile. It makes me want to smile more, his happiness is contagious. Not so cocky after all.

His plump lips and the stubble on his chin with his mussed-up hair, it makes want to touch him, run my fingers through his hair or run my palm over the roughness... I wonder what it would feel like…

Breaking myself out of my not so clean thoughts I change the subject. “So enough about my depressing life, tell me about you.” I rest my chin in my hand and listen to him talk. His voice is like velvet, deep but soft. In fact, I could listen to it all day.

“Well as you know I’m a writer and I like photography. I’ve actually just got a job as freelance writer/photographer for a magazine,” he says with a smile.

“That’s amazing news, Adam. Congratulations!” I lean across the table to kiss his cheek, feeling bold. Not that I can really back out now; I place my lips to his cheek and lightly touch it.

As I pull away, our eyes meet as we hold each other’s gaze just for a moment. What is wrong with me… I sit back in my chair and busy myself with my coffee. I look out the window to divert my attention. I don’t want to look at his lips at all…

“Do you want to get out of here or do you want to go around the track again?

My eyes widen with excitement. “Can we go around again?”

He’s either ignored what I just done or he’s trying to make it easier on me. I felt it though, I felt the air change between us.

“Come on Darcy, I need to show you who’s the best!” I get up from the chair as he winks then displays that cheeky grin, I’m beginning to like.

After he beat me yet again, we decided to call it a day and headed back to the car. The journey home was a lot more relaxed than the drive there as we laughed and chatted.

I told Adam more about my Dad and about the garage, he listened to me and took in every word I said to him. Spending the day with him today has introduced me to a different Adam that I met a couple of weeks ago, the cocky arrogant one was nowhere to be seen.

We pull up at my house and see Mum’s car in the driveway. He turns in his chair and looks at me.

“Thank you for agreeing to spending the day with me today, Darcy. I’ve really enjoyed it.” I smile shyly and look down.

“Darcy, look at me please?”

I lift my chin up a fraction and look across at him. I watch as he leans across and does the same to me as I did in the cafe to him, but his lips linger a little longer against my cheek.

His lips feel soft. My breathing speeds up, I try to relax myself but I can’t, he’s in such close proximity. He moves his lips across just an inch until I can feel his warm breath at the corner of my mouth.

His finger traces down my cheek until he reaches my chin. He rests the knuckle of his finger under my it as his thumb strokes my bottom lip. He pulls me closer to him until his lips touch mine gently, he presses against my them until I press back against his.

There’s a lot to be said for this type of kiss. I feel like a teenager again only it’s not awkward. His hand cups my cheek and his fingers thread into my hair.

His thumb smooths across my cheekbone as his tongue pushes against my lips, I give him the access he requests and very softly his tongue touches mine. My body wakes up to his touch as I kiss him back.

Pulling away at the same time, I open my eyes to see him smiling at me. His smile causes my own to pull at my face, I haven’t smiled this much in a long time.

Adam takes my hand in his and rubs his thumb across my knuckles. I rest my back and smile again like a fool. What do I do now, say thank you, ask to see him again or what? He seems to read my mind though.

“Can I see you again, Darcy?
