CHAPTER 6
ADAM
It's the day of our ‘friends’ date. Fuck. I’m so nervous, why am I nervous? We’re friends, that’s it, for now… of course. It doesn’t stop me from wanting to screw her senseless though. Todd thought it was hilarious this morning at how nervous I am. Wanker!
Pulling myself together, I check the address on my phone, put the postcode in my Sat Nav and start the engine.
I pull up at her address, get out and knock the door. Darcy answers the door with a nervous smile.
“Hi Adam,” She looks good dressed in light blue ripped jeans, a t-shirt and trainers. “Um, you didn’t tell me how I should dress, do I look okay? I can change.”
“No, no. You look good!” Dragging my eyes away from her luscious curves. “Are you ready?” She nods and turns away from me, shouts to say she’s going, picks up her keys, her phone and shuts the door behind her.
I open the door for her as she smiles and gets in the car. Before I open the driver door, I blow out a breath and get in. I look across at Darcy and smile.
“So, I suppose you’re wondering what I’ve got planned for today?”
“I am a little, yeah.”
“I hope you like it.” I say staring into her big green eyes. I look away quickly, “we better get a move on.”
We spend the next forty-five minutes listening to music she tells me who her favourite bands are and get comfortable with each other. I pull up at the Go-Kart track and watch her reaction as she goes wide-eyed and smirks.
“Go-Karts…?” A lazy smile spreads across her face, “Oh my gosh, Adam I love Go-Karts!” Her voice goes up an octave as she gets excited and jumps out of the truck.
Thank God for that. “I kind of guessed this would be the best thing since you’re a mechanic and all.” She nods excitedly.
“I’m so gonna kick your arse at this.” she smiles wide and starts walking towards the entrance. “Come on then if you’re coming!”
I lock up the truck, jog towards Darcy and pay for us to get in.
“Thanks. I could’ve paid though.”
“No way. This was my idea so I pay.” I wink at her, grab her hand and pull her towards the track.
Once we’ve had the safety talk from the guys there, Darcy jumps in a red kart and I jump in the blue one. There’s only another two or three on the track, so it’s game on.
At the starting line, we rev up and as soon as the flag goes up; we’re off. I lead for the first couple of laps before I see her come up the side of me and passes me. Oh, it’s on now.
We spend the next hour like that, passing each other until I just pip her at the finishing flag. She gets out of the kart with a huge smile on her face, which makes me happy. Every time I’ve seen her she looks like she has the weight of the world on her shoulders, but today she looks light, happy.
“Come on, let’s go get a drink.”
I lead her into the cafe at the track and find a table. I watch as she walks to the counter and orders our coffees. Her jeans cling to the curves of her arse giving me an outline and a very good image in my head. She turns with the coffees and walk back towards me.
Once she’s seated she smiles at me, “Thanks for the coffee.” I tell her as I pour a small packet of sugar in the cup and stir it up.
“You’re welcome, you paid for our admission, so I can at least get the drinks.” she says as she shrugs.
“So, Darcy. Tell me about the garage.”
She drops her eyes from mine for a second then looks back at me intently.
“It’s my Dad's… actually no, it’s mine. I run the garage, I do the books. The guys work for me but I don’t know for how much longer though to be honest,” she says so quiet I have to strain to hear her.
“So, who’s there today?”
“I’ll be honest we only open until dinnertime and Stephen opens up on a Saturday. I try and help my Mum out on a weekend…”
