“You don’t need to apologize. You didn’t do anything wrong. But if you don’t mind, I’m looking forward to working with you.” He grinned a little. “Now, I better get back to my pressure washing, or your brother’s going to feel like he’s not getting his money’s worth out of me.”
The way he said that caused Orchid to narrow her eyes.
“Is he paying you?”
Dwight just grinned, then turned and walked back to the pressure washer.
That cracker head. She shook her head, turning and heading down the aisle toward where the kittens were.
He was working for no pay. She’d bet money on it. Still, when she got to Coleman, she was going to ask to be sure.
She couldn’t believe it. Actually, yes, she could. But still, the idea that he was not just doing manual labor but doing it for no pay was crazy.
She smiled at that thought, as she heard the pressure washer start behind her, and knew that there was more to the man using it than what she had first thought.
Chapter 9
Love with commitment. - Colleen Hughes
––––––––
DWIGHT GOT STEPPEDon by a cow, squeezed against the fence by a different cow, kicked in the thigh by a steer, smashed his thumb to the point where he had to focus all of his energy to keep his eyes from leaking, but the crowning moment had been the hog that had bitten his leg.
He checked, there was just a small break in his skin just above his knee, his jeans had protected him, but his entire body was one throbbing, massive pain. And if his experience in sports was any indication, he was going to hurt a lot worse tomorrow.
Not to mention, the auction wasn’t even over.
He’d figured out that he shouldn’t follow an animal too closely, because they could throw a kick back. Thankfully, he hadn’t been centered behind the animal, or the kick might have landed somewhere that would have hurt far worse than his thigh.
Still, he learned his lesson, and he made sure the big black cow he now followed stayed well ahead of him.
Honestly, the pain aside, he’d been having a good time.
He hadn’t been quite accepted with open arms, exactly, but the fact that Orchid had so many sisters, and they seemed to be more accepting than the men, had worked in his favor.
Not that they were fawning over him like baseball fans might. Just that there wasn’t a competitive need to prove himself before they accepted him kind of thing that there was sometimes with men.
