“There you are, you little bitch,” a voice I never thought I’d hear snapped through the air. “Where the fuck have you been hiding, Cammy? Do you know what you put me through with that stunt?”
My whole body froze as terror consumed me when the man who claimed to be my father charged up to me. None of my pack were super close as they’d spread out to talk with people. Unable to move, I just watched as he grabbed my arm, causing me to let out a cry of pain.
Rage filled me as Oscar understood what was going on, and rushed over to me. Bodhi and Rafael were hot on his heels, but not fast enough to stop Father from grabbing my hair and yanking my neck to the side. I knew what he’d see there, proof that I no longer belonged to him, that I belonged to my pack.
“Son of a bitch, who the hell marked you? Damnit, answer me, Cammy, who the fuck did you whore yourself out to?”
He didn’t get to say much else after that, as Oscar’s fist slammed into his face sending him crashing to the floor. Seconds later, I was in Oscar’s arms as he held me tightly against him. My brain couldn’t catch up to what was going on, my body was still frozen with fear as memories started to replay. Every instance he hit me, each cruel word he hurled at me, and the pain my body endured because of him overwhelmed my senses.
“You dare lay a hand on our fucking Omega?” Bodhi snarled, kicking my father in the ribs. “Let’s see how you like being beaten within an inch of your life, you sorry sack of shit.”
Rafael grabbed Bodhi and hauled him off, shoving a phone in his hands. “We need him alive long enough to prosecute, and I need you to tell Savo what’s happening. The man is about ready to burn the world down, feeling her fear.”
Oscar started to purr and tucked my head under his chin as he moved to stand next to Bodhi. I watched Rafael squat down and say something to Father, but I couldn’t hear him and he was facing away from me so I couldn’t try to read his lips either. Whatever he said made Father’s face pale before he looked over at me for a second then he returned his attention to Rafael. When he was done talking, my Alpha grabbed Father by the shirt collar, hauled him to his feet, and marched to the front door. There were two cops standing there, ready to take the man who’d caused me endless amounts of suffering off in handcuffs.
Bodhi stepped in front of my line of sight, making it so he was all I could see as he smiled. Slowly, he reached out and wiped my cheek with his thumb, making me realize I’d been crying. “Cambi, Savo really needs to hear your voice. Do you think you could do that, hmm?”
He held the phone to the side of my head so I could hear what was happening on the other line.
“That rat bastard better be dead by the time I get there. If there is so much as a hair out of place that he caused, I’ll skin the bastard alive,” Savo raged.
“You’re coming here?” I whispered.
“Keksík,” Savo gasped. “My sweet littleKeksík, I’m almost there, just hang tight. Did he hurt you? Did he lay a hand on you?”
“He pulled my hair,” I said, my voice devoid of all emotion. “I think he might have bruised my arm… Why would he grab me so hard? I wasn’t doing anything, or trying to get away. I… I froze.”
“It’s okay, my sweet girl, just stay with the others, I asked the cops to just hold him until I got there. I’m two minutes away as long as someone doesn’t try to stop me,” Savo muttered. “Can you tell Bodhi I want to talk to Rafael?”
I nodded, then realized he couldn’t see me. “Okay, I’ll tell him.”
“I love you,Keksík,” he added. “Now, hand back the phone.”
“Love you, too,” I said in response, then looked into Bodhi’s eyes. “He wants to talk to Raffy.”
“Okay, I’ll hand over the phone and be right back,” Bodhi explained, then strode over to the older Alpha.
Rafael took the phone and put it up to his ear, only to flinch and pull it away again. He frowned down at the phone and hit a button, stuffing it back in his pocket.
“I think Rafael just hung up on Savo,” I murmured.
Oscar hummed his agreement and carried me to one of the couches. The common area must have cleared out when the excitement happened, since I couldn’t see anyone else around. I curled up into a ball in Oscar’s lap, hiding my face in his neck, taking in the warm caramel and cinnamon scent that was my sweet loving Alpha. He rubbed a hand soothingly up and down my back as he purred, lulling me into a state of welcome numbness.
Chapter 25
Beingslappedupsidethehead with Cambrie’s terror nearly had me driving off the side of the road. Thankfully, the streets were quiet in the area I was in or I would have run someone off the road. My truck was jam packed with boxes and my bed, knowing I needed something to sleep on tonight. I yanked my phone off its stand on the dash and called Spencer.
“Hey, I was wondering when you’d check in,” Spencer greeted. “Do you—”
“Where’s Cambrie? I need to know right now, don’t fuck me around, Spencer,” I barked.
There was a pause then I heard Nixon bark an order as well. “Answer him.”
“What’s wrong?” Spencer demanded. “You two would only act like this if something was wrong.”
“Damn it, man, tell me where my goddamn Omega is,” I bellowed.
“Fuck,” Spencer muttered. “She’s not here with us, call Rafael they went to the groc—”
