Rage that had been bubbling under the surface broke free of my control and whipped around me like a snake, ready to snap at anyone who dared to come close. “I swear on my honor as an Alpha, I will make sure something like this will never happen in this country again,” I growled. “If I have to burn our government to the ground and rebuild it, then that’s what I’ll fucking do.”

“You’ve got my vote,” Rick agreed as the sound of booted feet came pounding down the hall. “That would be my men leading the medics here,” he warned, pulling me away from the door so they could enter.

Soon the room was flooded with people, men yelling for medical supplies and other things I didn’t recognize. It was clear they needed space and I could be useful elsewhere. Glancing at Rick, I jerked my head for him to follow me as I left the room. The women were in the best hands and I had to trust they would do everything in their power because I was of no help.

“Where did you take him?” I asked.

Rick paused as if unsure he wanted to give me that answer. “You can’t talk to him alone. Let’s get Alton, and then I’ll take you to where we’re holding him. Everything about this needs to be above reproach so you don’t get dragged down with this.”

My Alpha side screamed at me to make Rick take me to himnow. That bastard deserved what was coming to him and I felt like a right hook to the face was the least of his worries. Yet I knew Rick was right. With all that we’ve discovered, knowing there were at least two of us following the law was the better option.

“Fine,” I grumbled and followed him out of the facility. “I don’t mean to step on your toes with this, but your men are gathering all the information they can from the place, right? I don’t want there to be a chance of someone destroying anything with all the chaos.”

“I made sure my own pack was hunting that stuff down. They are the only ones that I would trust with something this important,” Rick assured me. “Believe me when I say that there is nothing more that I want but to make sure we can save those women, and hopefully find those that have been sent elsewhere. Hell, even our Sasha is still in contact with her family, even though Shearia told us we couldn’t come back.”

Instead of hopping back into the Humvee, Rick headed for a back SUV that was parked right out front. Seemed this was what the backup had arrived in and they had left the key in the ignition as they came to our aid. “Any word on the bus headed for Asturg?” I asked as we headed back to their base.

“Nothing more than the escort found them and are ensuring they return to the Care Center.”

I grunted my acknowledgment of the information and pulled out my phone to call Savo. I needed to hear from him myself that we’d managed to do some good today.

“Marius,” Savo said when he answered. “Is there something else I can do for you?”

“Not as of yet, Rick said he told you we have Yoram?” I asked, needing to confirm.

I could hear talking in the background and Cambrie’s laugh making me yearn to be home with them. I wanted to hug each and every member of my pack to prove to myself they were alright and everyone was safe.

“Yeah, he called me and had me hack into their computer system. I’m downloading all the data I can get my hands on from those computers, as we speak. It’s taking a while with how much they have stored but I’ll get it all, don’t you worry,” Savo shared. “You doing alright? Rick mentioned you got there just as Yoram took out the other two. I’m sure that wasn’t what you expected for your day.”

“None of this is what I expected for my day, Savo, it’s so much worse,” I answered honestly.

Savo gave an understanding sound and the voices got louder. “Hold on, I know something that will help.”

There was some muffled talking and the sound of the phone being handed over. “Marius?”

Cambrie’s sweet voice filtered through the phone, a hint of concern in her voice. “Hi, Princess, I just wanted to check in and let you know I’m safe, but there are some more things I have to do. My hope is that I’ll be back for dinner, or better yet, I’ll meet you back at home now that the all clear has been given.” There was silence and I worried that she might have hung up or I’d lost signal with her. “Cambrie?”

“I’m here,” she said. “Savo told us about what happened, I’m sorry you had to see that. I feel selfish asking this after everything that’s happened and all you’ve learned, but does this mean it’s over?”

My heart broke for so many reasons at that one simple question that had so much meaning behind it. “I believe so, Princess, once I come back home to you tonight I’ll have a more confident answer. My gut tells me that the worst is over and yeah, we might have a few more days or weeks of struggles as we move forward, but it will be toward a new beginning.”

“I like the sound of that,” she agreed. “I love you, Marius, go rescue a few more princesses before you come home, okay? There are so many of them out there that need someone to fight for them.”

“I love you too, my Little Princess,” I said, knowing that even if I helped hundreds of Omegas today, the most important one would be the first princess I had the privilege of saving.

Hanging up, I realized we’d just pulled up to Rick’s headquarters. “Do you mind going in and grabbing him?” Rick asked. “The old bastard doesn’t like me all that much. I made the mistake of offering him tea when he arrived earlier.”

A bark of laughter burst out of me at that, just imagining how Alton would take such an offer. “I’m amazed you’re still alive after a comment like that.”

“Let’s just say it’s a good thing I’m quick on my feet and lucky he’s not as fast as he used to be,” Rick muttered.

Chuckling, I headed in but found him already coming out to meet me. “Told you I could listen in on conversations, didn’t I?” Alton reminded me. “It wasn’t the offer of tea that had me ready to clobber him with my cane, it was the sight of the wheelchair sitting by the door. If Yoram’s poison couldn’t slow me down enough to need anything more than a cane, what makes that idiot think I’d be willing to use a wheelchair?”

“Did he actually suggest you use it?” I asked, feeling that was out of character from what I’ve seen of Rick.

Alton frowned at me. “He didn’t have to, he put it there, making it an implied suggestion.”

“You know what, old man? I think you’re making far too much of this than you need to,” I scolded. “Come on, I’m going to pay a visit to the sick bastard, and Rick said I had to bring you along so I don’t kill him. We need answers and I doubt he’s going to give them up willingly.”
