“Well, for one, he prides himself on protecting everyone. I bet he’s torturing himself over all of this. Kind of like you are. He doesn’t show his feelings easily. He keeps most people at arm's length for fear of being hurt or not living up to someone’s standards,” she pauses, staring at me. “Should I go on?”

“No. I think you made your point,” I say snottily. “So how do I reassure him that I want him just like he is?”

“Seduce him,” she says simply.

“That’s it? That will cure him?”

“Yes, well, mostly. He is a man. You may have to use some words too, but at the core, that will work.”

“Seduce him,” I repeat, not convinced.

“Yep. A man gets the idea when you go out on a limb and show him. Men need the show, and women need the tell.”

“You are crazy.” I laugh.

“Yeah, you do it and then tell me how crazy I am.”

“I’ll think about it.”

“Good.”

“I should let you get some more rest. James was making some food, but I think he must have had problems. I guess he’s not the best cook. Are you hungry? I might have to make us all something.”

“I could eat.” She calls out to me before I open the door, “Make sure he really did clean off the counter,” she smirks.

“Oh shit. Seriously, you heard that?” My cheeks turn bright red.

“Oh, yeah. I need you to keep your promise to find me a man. But now I’m thinking I need three. That was hot.” She laughs her ass off when I slam the door.

From now on, no sex if she’s in the house.

Chapter Seventeen

Jax

“Jax, so glad your mate is alright.” Josh is behind the bar, polishing glasses when I walk in.

“Thanks, man. How’s the little one?” I lean on the outside of the bar.

“Already growing like crazy. If she’s this active now, I can’t imagine what she's going to be like after she shifts for the first time.” He swings his towel over his shoulder, looking at me seriously. “Are you here to see Blue?”

“Yeah, have you seen him?” I look around the empty room. It’s way too early to be busy, but someone usually hangs around.

“He’s in his office. He has been biting at everybody that crosses him. He’s been making the security guys take some courses. Says they're not ready to protect anyone.”

“I’ll take care of it. He’s just going through some things.” I take the drink he puts in front of me. I’m going to need it.

“It’s expected after what you guys went through. Our mates are our life.” He puts out his hand when I stand up.

Clasping his hand, I give him a nod.

Of course, Blue will be in his office, going over and over what happened, how he could do better, what needs to change.

He needs to be home bonding with our mate, making her feel special. I feel the conflicted emotions going on inside of her. She thinks the way he’s acting is because of something she did. He needs to pull his head out of his ass, and who better to help him along than his older brother.

I don’t bother knocking on his door. He’s behind his desk, hair sticking everywhere, papers scattered, staring at the computer screen at the security tapes.

He looks up at me with irritation. “What?”
