Stephan picks up on the first ring. “There was a text on Jax’s phone, a bomb threat. Lock everyone down, search the club, all the rooms. Keep everyone inside. Watch for threats. Your Alpha’s orders.” I don’t bother saying hello.
“How long ago?” he asks, all business. I can hear him on the move.
“Ten minutes. Do a sweep for bugs too. No one should have known we were on the way. Start in my office.” My mind runs through all the possibilities.
“Got it.”
“I need three to come to the house. Harmony is with me. They need to patrol the property. Tell them just to text when they are in place. Stephan, make sure you trust them a hundred percent. I’m not taking any chances,” I demand.
“Understood.”
“Jax and Blue are sniffing out the bomb if it’s there. Probably evacuating too. I’ll let you know if I need more backup.” I choose to ignore Harmony’s small whimper for now.
“Anything you guys need.” I hear shouting on the other end of the phone, the pack hearing the urgency and seriousness in his voice.
“On second thought, send that damn bear to the Alpha,” I grumble out. My dislike of bears is a personal one, just like coyotes. Mack is in the pack, though, and it would be helpful if they need some heavy lifting. Bears are slower than us, but he can take a punch and help carry out any that need it. Much to my chagrin, we got along. It took a while to break down my barrier of the species. Mack’s a nice guy, so it was easier to like him.
“Consider it done. Watch your back, brother,” he says sincerely.
“You too.” I push the button ending the call, calling Kerian immediately.
“Blue, this is a surprise,” he says sarcastically. “You interrupted my seduction of a lovely little mouse.” Giggling filters through the phone.
“Yeah, don’t expect a weekly BFF call, asshole. Like I give a shit about your sex life.” My initial impression of him is still the same. He’s an asshole, but I can see myself having a beer with him.
“What’s up?” The music and the laughter that I heard when he picked up is rapidly disappearing.
“Jax and James need your help. We had another threat, a bomb.” Harmony cocks her head slightly, listening intently to this new voice.
“Your mate?”
“She’s safe. But it was at her apartment building. Not sure if it was just another way to freak her out or not.”
“I’ll gather some of my men and head there.” His tone turned serious.
“Thanks, man,” I rattle off the address and then end the call.
“Who was that?” Harmony pulls me from my thoughts.
“That’s the Alpha of the wolf pack. The one we met earlier. He just recently took over,” I explain, slowing down to turn down our road.
“He sounds nice,” she says hesitant.
“I don't know about nice, but so far, he seems honest. He’s trying to do the right thing for his pack.” Coming to the gate, I push the button to open it.
“He’s going to help Jax and James?” she asks with a furrowed brow.
“Yeah, babe,” I answer softly.
We pull up to the house. I shut off the car, and the silence is defining. We both stay still, not sure how to go on.
“We would feel it if they got hurt, right?” Harmony asks in a small voice.
“We would. They will be here as soon as they can.” I reach over, putting my hand on her thigh. “Let’s go in.”
I retrieve her bag from the back, and she follows me into the entryway. I put in the code, shutting and locking the door. “I’ll take this up for you. Be right back.” I wait for her nod, carrying it up to her room.
When I get back down, she is still standing in the same place I left her.
