I had to start standing on my own.

And I needed a break from my feelings too.

Then a stupid, desperate suggestion rose inside me.

Since he was leaving anyway, why not?

“Feed from me one more time, then,” I said quietly. “Awaken my demon once more before you go, and be strong so you’ll be safe on your journey.”

His eyes met mine, and the longing in them took my breath away. “Just tonight?”

I nodded.

“You won’t hate me?”

“Does it matter?” I asked.

His chin dipped.

“I won’t hate you,” I said. “Just once more. So we’ll both be stronger apart. Just to say good-bye.”

“I should tell you no,” he said. “I should pull us both out of this whirlpool that is slowly dragging us down. But I can’t. I want you too much, Morningstar. So just don’t hate me when the morning comes.”

“I won’t,” I said. And I wouldn’t. I would simply be grateful for everything he had done.

Then he took me in his arms and settled his lips gently over mine.

The kiss started gentle, and I felt his hands smooth down my arms until he found my fingers and entwined them tenderly with his own.

He kissed me softly, nipping at my lower lip before his tongue swiped out to lick my bottom lip, then my upper. Then he dove inside, stroking softly, then harder, twisting against my tongue, enticing me into a heated dance that had us pressed tight together, our hands clenched.

It wasn’t enough, the feel of my breasts against his powerful chest, my nipples rubbing against his hard muscles. It wasn’t enough, the spicy scent of his musk, the taste of him in my mouth, the way he was holding me.

More, more, more, was all my demon wanted.

I thrust my tongue against him, trying to get into his mouth and take control, and he let out a little growl and broke apart from me, our hands still entwined. Then he separated our hands and grabbed my wrists, jerking them behind me and pinning them there with one hand.

His other hand came up to brush my hair away from my cheek.

His eyes flashed red in the darkness, and slowly, his hair began to grow, falling lower and lower over his shoulders and onto his chest and back. Large, twisting black horns grew up and out of his head.

When he smiled, there were fangs.

I’d awoken the incubus in him.

“Think to top me, little wolf?” He shook his gorgeous red hair back over his shoulder, then gave me a fierce smirk.

I just stared at him. As beautiful as he was normally, there was something extra captivating about this form.

Something so sensual it felt like the air was filling with pheromones. The slightly pink tinge to his skin glowed in the light of the moon, streaming through the nearby windows.

Keeping a hold on my hands behind my back, he slowly walked forward, pushing me backward and into his bedroom with a keen look in his eyes. I had to strain just to look up at him.

Finally, I could look deeply into the eyes of his incubus form, and I let out a little gasp when I saw rings of gold at the center of his pupils.

“I hide them,” he said. “I use shadows to hide the red from the world. It’s a sure giveaway that I’m a demon. The gold almost always shows through.”
