But it changed nothing.

The next day, I practically stumbled out of my room after I don’t know how many rounds between her legs.

“Hey, VP,” the prospect called out from behind the bar where he was drying glasses. “I’m supposed to tell you that Prez wants to talk to you.”

I nodded. “Give me a shot of Jameson, first.”

He immediately complied and set the glass in front of me. I tossed it back and with a nod, pushed myself away, and made my way back to his office.

Sitting there with his head was bowed, he was going over the paperwork in front of him. I chuckled at the reading glasses he wore. He glanced up and shot me a glare. Knowing exactly what I found humor in, he whipped the glasses off and stuffed them in his top drawer.

“Don’t be embarrassed that you need readers,” I teased.

He grunted. “Fuck you. You’ll be there soon.”

I dropped to the chair in front of his desk and kicked my feet out. “What’s up?”

He leaned back and studied me for a moment.

I cocked a brow.

“Jameson called early this morning.” Jameson was the national P and was based out of the national chapter in New Orleans.

“Yeah. And?”

“I took the liberty of feeling him out about the chapter in Dallas.”

At those words tension zipped down my spine. I leaned my elbows on my thighs and breathed into my hands. Then I dropped them and met his gaze. Unsure of what I wanted, I didn’t know what to say.

“Nationals had church to discuss it and they think it’s a great idea to re-establish our footing in the Dallas area. He also likes the idea of a seasoned chapter fairly close by to guide the new chapter down in Cedar Creek. Rumor has it, they would benefit from our type of guidance.” He sat quietly watching and reading my tells.

I breathed deep, puffed out my cheeks as I exhaled and sat back. “Shit.”

It was all I could say because I wasn’t expecting this so soon.

“You said you need to be down there in about a month or less, it wasn’t like I could drag my feet on this. That’s now only a few weeks away. He knows you weren’t aware I was asking. He assured me they wouldn’t hold it against you if you didn’t want it—but he hopes you do.”

“I’m not sure I’m cut out to do the job,” I admitted as I absently scratched my short beard. I also didn’t like the reminder that my time here was coming to an end.

“Bullshit.”

“Fuck this is fast.”

“So is your move.”

“Touché.”

“Look, bro, I hate to lose you, but I’d be a fool not to see the natural ability you have to lead. The brothers all respect and look up to you. You’re steady and capable. In my opinion, you’d be great down there. Hell, if I wasn’t able to fulfill my obligations as president, I’d want you in my place.”

“I’d be starting at ground zero for club owned businesses. There’s nothing left there.”

He tapped his desktop rapidly as he chewed on his lip and tugged the piercing with his teeth. “What if we opened a second location for the biological cleaning services. Dallas is a big area. You know damn well they have a need. And Jameson said they had leased out the strip club and the car washes, but they expire in a little over a few months. It would give you time to build up the chapter before you took over and in the meantime, you’d have the income from the cleaning business.”

“Can I think about it for a few days?” I nervously plucked at the frayed spot on the thigh of my worn jeans as my knee bounced.

“Of course, but they have a short window for notification of the tenants. Contract says they have to give them a ninety-day notice that the lease won’t be renewed,” he replied with a wince.

“Fuck.”
