“Serena wants to do the same for my mom.” Leo gets a somber look on his face, and I know every bit of him wishes that Rosa Maria was here.
Eventually we both get situated. Leo finishes getting dressed and makes his way over to grab Serena. I follow him out of the office and head over to my parents' old living quarters and grab the flowers.
I didn’t bother dressing up like Leo did. My plan is to just place the flowers on the grave and head home to bury myself in a bottle of tequila.
“Santos!” A female voice calls out my name as I’m about to pass through the security gate of the estate.
Turning, I see Camila running over to me. In one hand she is holding the fabric of her traditional style dress and in the other she is holding a mountain of flowers.
I stop and wait for her to make her way over to me.
“Here. Take this.” She says, handing me the mountain of flowers as soon as she’s about a foot away from me.
“Got enough flowers here?” I have to make sure I have a good hold on all the bunches, or they will fall to the ground.
“I was supposed to have more, but that was all I could carry,” she sounds out of breath, and my guess it’s from the running.
“You good?” I ask her, nodding at her to follow me to the square.
“Oh my god, this dress is so heavy and hot,” she fans herself with her hand. “Is my makeup okay? I feel like I’m sweating and it’s all melting off.”
She closes her eyes and has me inspect every single inch of her well decorated face paint.
This girl is seriously an artist. Her face is covered in different shades of black and a few specks of reds and blues, all of it coming together to make it look like an actual skull.
It’s impressive as hell.
“Not a line out of place.” I tell her and she lets out a sigh of relief.
“Gracias a Dios. I had to do not only my and Isabella’s makeup but also Serena’s, so I was in a time crunch, and I was worried that mine would look like shit.”
I snort. “Nothing you do looks like shit.”
“Aw! You gave me a compliment; you really must love me!” She gives me a bright smile, all the while I just roll my eyes at her.
“I love you like an annoying cat that won’t go away.”
That causes her to scuff. “Excuse me. I’m not an annoying cat. I’m more like a puppy that will forever be your companion.”
“You’re too fucking much.”
This is my relationship with Camila. Leo acts like the overprotective brother that he is and with me she gets the type of brother that will spar with her whit.
She’s a real pain in the ass but she’s the sister I never had.
“You still love me.,” she sticks her tongue out at me. Something must have caught her attention because she pauses and looks around. “Where is Isabella? She’s always with you during this.”
Have I ever mentioned how I hate how observant the Morales can be sometime?
I shrug, trying to act as indifferent as possible. “Your sister and I aren’t talking at the moment.”
It’s more like she hates my guts and thinks that I don’t love her because I won’t fight for her. Little does she know that all a complete lie. I will fight for her until I die.
“Because of the engagement, right? She should be happy about celebrating an engagement with you. Instead, she’s miserable and depressed over the engagement with Emilio.”
Camila’s statement makes me stop in my tracks.
How the fuck…?
