“You must be Isabella.” The woman from behind the counter, the one with the bubbly smile, says.

“Yes. That is me.” Her smile is infectious, I can’t help but give her a bright smile in return as we meet halfway to shake hands.

“It’s nice to finally meet you. I’ve been looking forward to meeting you all day. Especially with your designs.”

Did you hear that? She was looking forward to meeting me!

“It’s a pleasure meeting you as well. I’ve been excited since you called last week. I’m happy that you liked my designs that much.” I try to keep my voice as leveled as possible, but the giddiness is trying to slip out.

No way am I going to scare this woman away. She is my ticket to making a name for myself.

“Liked? Honey, no. I absolutely loved them. I saw them and my mind was already planning ways to incorporate them next season.”

I think I might love this woman.

“Well, I hope that you feel the same way with the ones I brought with me today.” Fingers crossed.

“Why don’t we go to my office, where we can talk more about this position, and you can show them to me.” I don’t know how it was possible, but her smile grows even more.

I nod, trying my hardest to contain my excitement. “That would be great.”

Not even five minutes since I walked in, and I have a feeling that this will be the best interview that I will ever have.

I freaking love it.

“I know you just graduated, so you must be looking forward to some free time. So, how do you feel about starting the first of next month? Give yourself somewhat of a summer before you jump right into the grind. How does that sound?”

I’m already nodding before she can even finish getting the words out.

“I can most definitely be here the first of next month.” I feel like jumping up and down, but I hold it in.

“Great. Welcome to the team, Isabella.” Belinda, the owner and who I just interviewed with, says. A smile still on her face.

“Thank you so much for the opportunity. I promise that I won’t let you down.” I shake her hand once again.

“I have no doubt that you will be a great addition to the team.”

And with that I’m free to go and free to jump around without my now new boss getting tempted to fire me.

I’m able to make it to my car before the smile I have on my face finally causes an explosion through my whole body.

I can’t believe that just happened.

I just got a job as an in-house designer, at twenty-two. That is crazy.

“Mamí, I’m going to be making dresses for a living.” Tears start to form in my eyes, wishing she was actually here for me to share this with her.

She would have been so proud, so happy, to see that I turned something that I did with her into something I absolutely love.

The first dress that I make for the boutique, I will honor my mother with it.

I wipe the tears away and then remember that Camila called me earlier.

I should call her back. She’s going to freak out when I tell her I got the job.

Pulling out my phone from the bottom of the purse, I turn it on and wait for my reception to come back on.
