“Oh, fuck,” she whispers to herself, looking over to find her mother at the bottom of the steps with a glare on her face and her hands propped on her hips.

She’s standing next to Noah fucking Campbell and an older looking man I assume is the mayor, all three looking mad as hell with their eyes on us.

“What on earth do you think you’re doing?” her mom asks, staring at Jordyn with a look that promises pain and suffering and all that bad shit.

“Mom,” Jordyn hisses, pleading her with her eyes not to make a scene. “Can we not do this her–”

“No, you stupid girl, we’re doing this now,” she cuts in, her face red with unfiltered fury. “Your future is at stake here and we will not allow you to throw it away for this delinquent boy,” she sneers, glaring at the cigarette in my hand before she moves her attention back to her daughter. “If you don’t come home with us right this second I will kick you out of my house and you will have nothing left. I mean it, JJ. It’s either him or us. Make your choice.”

“For fuck’s sake, Elizabeth, there is no choice,” Noah bites out, stepping closer like he’s about to snatch Jordyn’s arm, but then Bear growls and yanks on the leash in my hand to go for him, making him jump.

“Jesus Christ,” he mutters, damn near shitting himself while he falls back in line beside his father.

Bear continues to bark at him from his spot in front of Jordyn and she looks at me, leaning up on her tiptoes to speak over my lips. “Do you dare me?”

I shake my head at that, tightening my arm around her waist until her hips bump mine. “Not this time, baby. If you’re doing this, do it because you want to. Do it because you want me.”

“I do want you,” she says without hesitation. “It’s always gonna be you, new boy.”

I smirk and she smirks back, looking over when she spots Travis and Kian standing with my parents behind us. I didn’t even hear them show up, but they don’t seem bothered by the drama unfolding around us. Trav bumps my fist and Kian grins, leaning over to pass Jordyn the iced coffee he must have bought for her.

“Thank you, gorgeous,” she says sweetly, lifting the straw to her mouth to take a sip.

Her mother mutters something I don’t catch and folds her arms over her chest, her nostrils flaring while she bounces her eyes between me and Jordyn. “He’s gonna ruin your life,” she tells her, but it’s not a plea for her to stay.

She says it like a fact.

One last fuck you to the daughter she can’t control anymore.

Jordyn shrugs and looks at the mayor, shaking her ass while she walks over to pass him the phone in her hand. He glares down at her and she tosses me my keys, sliding her fingers through mine while she pulls me back towards my car in the parking lot.

“How bad were you today, princess?”

“Bad enough to ditch school, get myself suspended, kidnap Penelope and blackmail the sheriff,” she says proudly, ticking them off on her fingers. “I also yelled at your parents and threatened the police with a lot of curse words. I even said motherfucker once.”

“For real?”

“For real,” she echoes, and I drag my lip out between my teeth, shamelessly moving my eyes over her body in that sexy little uniform I love so much.

“Hey, pretty boy?” I call out, hitting him with a smug ass grin while I flip him off over my shoulder. “Fuck you.”

His jaw ticks with rage and Jordyn laughs, quickly lowering my hand to my side while she opens the back door for Bear. The three of us jump inside and I start the ignition, casually smoking the last of my cigarette while Jordyn pulls her seatbelt on over her chest.

“Xan, don’t–”

I hit the gas and her mother squeals, stepping back with her mouth hanging open and her hands covering her heart. Jordyn shakes her head at me and I toss my roach out the window, keeping one eye on the road while I lean over to tilt her chin up with my free hand.

“I love you, baby girl.”

She smiles at that, real and honest and happy. “That’s good, because you’re stuck with me now.”

Jordyn

“Xan,” I complain, leaning back against his headboard, my hands fisting the sheet either side of me.

“What, baby?”
