“If you say so.”
He pauses, barking orders at the guys in the background for a second. “Oh, and babe?”
“What?”
“You wanna explain to me why you’re doing seventy on the highway?”
“Because it’s the speed limit.”
“Since when has that ever stopped you?”
I tense some more, licking my lips when I feel the boys’ eyes on me. “Since now, I guess.”
“Okay, then. Just try to get here before sunrise, yeah?”
“Whatever you say, boss.”
Damon glares at my choice of words and I laugh lightly, snatching the phone to toss it back in the center console.
“I’m so confused.” Kai frowns, shoving a sprinkle covered donut in his mouth.
“Dean’s a cop.” Damon guesses, eyeing me. “How does he know how fast you’re going?”
“He’s tracking my iPhone.”
“He’s tracking his drugs.” He corrects me, locking his jaw when I shrug. “How long have you been doing this?”
“Almost four years.”
“You’ve been running drugs since you were fourteen?” Wren pulls his head back, eyeing me like I’m crazy. “Why?”
“Because my Daddy refused to work and I needed to pay what us regular people like to call bills.” I bite out, taking a breath to calm myself. “Happy?”
Silence.
Nothing but fucking silence.
“You boys better remove those pathetic looks from your faces or you’ll be removing bullets from your kneecaps before the night’s out.”
The twins laugh at me and Damon stares, pulling his brows in a little bit when I move to turn the music up. Born For This by The Score plays through the speakers and does absolutely nothing to keep my mind off my racing heart because I can’t deny I’m fucking shitting myself right now.
I never panic on the job.
This has been my life for so long that I can practically do this shit in my sleep, but this isn’t just any other job, and it isn’t just my ass on the line tonight.
It’s theirs.
A little over three hours later, I pull up outside Dean's house and drop my head back on the seat, only now releasing the breath I've been holding since the second they jumped in this car earlier tonight.
“Stay here.”
They don't.
I climb out and grab the duffel from the trunk, slamming it shut and turning to face Dean when he throws the front door open and comes out to meet me.
“Have you lost your fuckin’ mind?”
My head pulls back. ”What?”
