“Is anything she said true?”

Wren sighs, dropping his ass down on the chair in my peripheral. “Most of it, yeah.”

“So you think she had your uncle, her own husband killed in a car accident but failed to kill your Mom so she finished the job herself and faked her suicide?”

He nods, hurting my nonexistent heart when I catch the tortured look in his eyes. I slam the safe shut and smack it before I can stop myself, grinding my teeth when I imagine what they must have gone through, what he must have gone through when he found her.

“Callie-”

“Don’t.”

“But we just-”

“I said don’t, Kai.” I snap, scrubbing my hands over my face to calm myself because I know exactly what they’re thinking and I don’t like it.

Their curious eyes feel like fire burning through my skin and I shake my head, moving to do the only thing I can to get them to stop.

“Where are you going?” Kai frowns, jumping up from the bed when I walk to the door.

“Out.”

Chapter 14

Damon

I make no move to stop her.

The angry little punk can go ahead and have her little temper tantrum for all I care. She won't get far before we find her.

Before I find her.

“She's confusing as fuck.” Kai points out, still frowning at the door she just slammed in his face. “How can she be fine with us kidnapping her and framing her for arson but gets mad over a harmless little bug put there to keep her safe?”

Wren snorts, standing from his seat in the corner. “She's not mad at you, dumbass.”

“Try telling her that.”

I roll my eyes, watching Kai when he walks over to her closet and tries to guess the combination on her safe, pouting when he can't crack it.

“Her pride took a hit just now.” I tell him, pulling my phone out to text the boys and let them know we're coming.

“Why, because we heard everything she said about her Dad?”

I nod. “And she knows I played her to get it on her.”

“Knows?” He hides a grin, eyeing me over his shoulder while he snoops through her shit. “You really tryna tell me that was you playing her like you don't want her?”

I work my jaw, snatching one of her thongs from his hand to toss it back. “Out.”

He laughs at me and Wren shakes his head, coming up to stand beside me. “You think she meant it?”

“What?”

“All of it.” He licks his lips, eyeing me in the mirror. “The part about wanting to kill her Dad.”

I shake my head because I honestly don't know. It's like Kai said, she's confusing as fuck and damn near impossible to read when her walls are up. She could have been lying, saying whatever she needed to in order to get Katherine to open her mouth, but..

“She wouldn't have run from us if all we heard was lies.” Wren voices my own thought, sighing when I don't answer.
