“You have Aidan now–”

“Is that a problem?”

“God, no, of course not. I love Aidan, and I love you. I just meant he’s had so much change and–”

“He’ll adjust. Aidan loves both of us, so it’s not like moving in together will be a bad change. We’ll sell that house and get our own place.”

Victory’s eyes light up. “Yeah? It’s just that…” Her eyes tell me everything I need to know. The absence of Hannah is weighing on her, too, and it’s impossible to keep being in that space without constantly breaking down.

It’s beyond depressing to live in a house that was once so full of such a vibrant girl. Everywhere I look, her ghost haunts me. Hannah lives in my heart, not the drywall, and I want a fresh start with Victory.

“I know, angel. Me, too.”

“I don’t know what I want,” she says, and I squeeze her hard, making her yelp before she gives me a soft kiss. “I don’t mean about you. You’re the only thing I know that I want for sure. I mean, I don’t know if I want to teach, keep being an agent remotely, or both.”

“You don’t have to decide now. We’ll talk about it in the New Year. I’ll be here to support you no matter what you decide. If you don’t want to work at all while you go back to school, then you know I’ve got everything covered.”

Her eyes fill with gratitude. “Thanks, Cade.”

“We can have sex in the truck now,” I mutter into her neck. “Just like you asked.”

But that’s her cue to scoot back to her seat despite my long-suffering groan.

“We have to get home,” she replies primly. “That’s what you told me.”

“I’m an idiot, and I take it back.”

“Nope, sorry, you have to wait.”

To make matters worse, she grabs my hand in both of hers and kisses along my middle finger before taking it into her mouth while she looks at me, making my cock twitch in envy.

“You’re evil,” I accuse.

“You love me.”

“I do. So you should give me road head.”

Victory laughs, and all the tension between us evaporates. Damn, it feels good to have next steps for our relationship that we both agree on.

“Nice try,” she says.

I’ve been waiting forever for this moment. To be in a committed relationship with Victory is all I’ve ever wanted, and now I finally have my dream girl back in my life for good.

She’s moving home to be with me!

Fuck, yes.

So I can’t spoil our moment by telling her the latest on Duncan and the letter I received this morning.

Chapter 41

Victory

Partofmewantsto build up high, impenetrable walls and get my ass back to New York where life may be lonely, but it’s simple.

The other part of me is jumping for joy and doing cartwheels because the man I’ve loved for basically my entire life is finally ready to make things work at all costs.

We’ve just had a perfect few days as a little family, and I’m doing the dishes while Aidan plays on the floor. He’s quiet rather than his usual rambunctious self.
