Hannah:He most certainly will. He’s down in the dumps missing you. I swear it’s different this time.

Maybe this is the sob story that Bobby is going to try and sell me, too. With a sigh, I drop my phone into my purse and hop into a cab.

Savanna is waiting at the bar when I arrive. Three guys are standing in her personal space and trying to get her attention, which she’s blatantly ignoring. When she spots me, her eyes light up and I hug her.

“I ordered us a bunch of delicious bar food as per your request,” Savanna announces.

“Perfect,” I reply. “Now just don’t let me eat it all.”

Crave is a typical sports bar with Knights memorabilia everywhere, including a signed jersey from Bobby. The energy inside is intense like it always is before a home game. Everyone is decked out in their Knights gear and talking shit.

It’s a good thing Bobby is so easygoing because he’s under a lot of pressure to perform at an elite level on demand. He always tells me that he’s only as good as his last game, and his career has already lasted longer than most professional athletes.

“Tell me about Bobby,” Savanna encourages, as the server sets down two glasses of sparkling white wine.

“My best friend, Hannah, has an older brother named Cade, as you know,” I explain. “He’s best friends with Bobby and Gavin, so we essentially grew up together.”

“Is he dating anyone?”

I let out a humorless laugh. “Let me put it this way… If you want to get laid tonight, I’m sure Bobby will be up for it. But don’t expect him to date you. He doesn’t date anyone, ever.”

Savanna rolls her eyes. “One of those guys.”

“Yeah, I guess, but he’s also a really good person,” I reply, trying not to sound defensive. “I can count on him for anything because he’s so fiercely loyal to his people.”

She nods. “Well, after Colin, I’m not looking for anything serious, anyway.”

Savanna has mentioned her ex but never told me why they broke up. She holds her cards close to the chest, and she’s often completely unreadable.

Given how beautiful she is, it’s intimidating as hell. I’m glad she spoke to me first because I never would have dared to approach her. I hope to earn her trust soon and get to the next level of our friendship.

“Then Bobby is perfect,” I promise her.

“What’s going on with you and Cade?”

I groan. “Veto.”

Savanna’s melodic laugh fills the room. “Okay, how’s work?”

We dive into a conversation about our respective jobs until we have to head over to the stadium. I’ve been to many of Bobby’s games, so I know the drill and always prefer to be in the stands rather than a box.

We head to the front row and Savanna whistles. “This is a sweet view.”

“Do you follow football?” I ask.

I grew up watching the guys play, and in Small Town America, high school and college ball is a big deal. When Bobby went pro, the entire town celebrated.

Seriously.

“Not in the slightest, but I like their pants,” Savanna giggles.

I provide a running commentary of the game for Savanna’s sake, but she’s only interested in how sexy Bobby looks on the field.

When we meet him in the private lounge after the game, he immediately wraps me in a hug so tight my feet come off the ground.

“Hey, baby girl,” he says, as he spins me around in a circle. “Missed you so much.”

“Yeah, I love you, too. Now, what am I in trouble for?” I tease.
