"What?"
"Pull over."
He does so.
Hunter runs around the car and yanks my door open. "Get out."
"What?"
"Go to the front."
"No."
"Go to the front, or I'll remove you."
"Hunter," Ryker growls.
He steps in front of Ryker's door. "Tell her to move or so help me God, I will move her there myself."
What a freaking psycho.
Ryker scowls and points at him. "Have you lost your mind?"
"Five. Four. Three—"
"Julieta, get up here," Ryker demands.
"No."I'm not leaving Vanessa with Hunter. He's a crazy lunatic.
"Damn it, Julieta," Ryker cries out.
I jerk my head back, surprised by Ryker's voice. And I know I've messed up, for him to yell at me like that.
Hunter motions for me to get out. I get in the front seat.
"Put your seat belt on," Ryker gently says.
I try to get it on, but my hands can't seem to snap it into the slot.
He puts his hand over mine and clicks the buckle in place. I don't need him to say he's sorry. I see it in his eyes. He says it anyway.
"I'm sorry I yelled at you."
"It's fine."
"No, it's not."
"It is."
I start to pull my hand back, but he doesn't let it go. Several times, he squeezes it, but I'm not able to look at him.
I'm not mad at Ryker. I'm angry at myself.
I don't know how to be around people anymore. Things with Hunter have only escalated throughout the day, and so much of it is my fault. Ryker is going to lose his job and screw up his life because he's helping me. And I don't even know why I'm fighting anymore. I hate who I've become. I detest everything about my life. The Global Leaders aren't people who can be tricked. I already know this. My fate is sealed, but now Ryker's involved. He's at risk as much as I am. And I wish I could just crawl back in the hole where he found me.
