When I'm finished, he gives me water and a towel. I rinse out my mouth then brush my teeth.

Dirk furrows his brows and puts his hand on my forehead. "Did you feel sick earlier?

"No. It just crept up on me. It happened the other day, too. As soon as it came, it left. I think it's just nerves. My body is probably still adjusting to all the stress."

"You don't feel like you have a fever. What day did you get sick?"

"Yesterday. And a few other days this week. But I'm not ill. I was under a lot of pressure with all the shows and recording the new album. Plus, I was heartbroken over you," I tease, but it's the truth, and we both know it.

Dirk tugs me into his arms. "If you start to feel sick again or this gets worse, we're going to need to see a doctor."

"I'm fine. It's nerves. Really."

He sighs and tightens his arms around me.

"Don't get all sentimental and soft on me."

He grunts. "I'm not soft."

"Come on. Let's get going."

We get in the van and travel for hours. Dirk keeps asking me how I feel. I tell him great, and I mean it. I'm buzzing with happiness. He saved me once again, and we're together. He's all I want and need, and there's nothing that could be better.

We drive through one of Tinker's friend's border crossings and into Mexico.

For hours we travel. I glance out at the landscape and mutter, "I can't believe we're back in Mexico."

"We've gotta lie low until Tinker's guy is back, and we're able to cross into Texas."

"When will that be?"

"He said it could be days or weeks."

My pulse quickens. "What are we going to do? Staying in Mexico isn't a good idea."

"We couldn't stay in Belize. But don't worry, I've got it figured out."

"Do you mind telling me your plans?"

He snickers. "I could, but you seem a bit feisty right now, and I rather enjoy it."

I swat him on his arm. "Not funny."

"Who said anything funny? I was serious."

"Dirk!"

"Keep your panties on. Wait. Don't keep your panties on because I rather enjoyed how you woke me up last night and couldn't get enough of me."

Heat burns my cheeks. "Dirk, what is this plan of yours?"

"I haven't seen my cousins in a while. I think it's time for a visit. I have to warn you, though. They are pretty big fans. They might be a little star-struck at first."

"Am I allowed to give them autographs or no? Last time you didn't clarify the rules and went all berserk on me."

"I did not."

"Yes, you did."
