Aidan asserts, "I have a new shipment coming in today. I need to be there."
"It's at four," Tully states.
"Right. So you already know I can't miss it."
"Which is why you'll have to have Danny do it," Tully replies.
"He's going to need my help," Aidan claims.
Tully shakes his head. "He can get Jamie to help him."
"Jamie hasn't reviewed shipments before," Aidan points out.
"Time for him to learn. End of topic. You need to concentrate on the task at hand. I want your man picked up in the next two hours," Tully demands, as if kidnapping a federal agent is as easy as taking a walk in the park.
"Why would you have us do this in daylight?" I ask.
"There shouldn't be any issues picking them up," Luca interjects.
"How come?" I question, worried this is the wrong move. Daylight presents issues we normally try to avoid.
Luca lights up a joint and takes a drag. The marijuana mixes with the thick tobacco smoke, suffocating my lungs. I fight the urge to flee Tully's warehouse. Luca slowly exhales and adds, "They're all undercover. Right now, they've infiltrated the Abruzzos and O'Learys. Gianni's guy found out."
Tully sarcastically says, "Way to keep your mouth shut. Now you've taken all the fun out of this."
Gianni scowls at Tully, questioning, "My guy?"
Luca nods. "Your prison friend has turned out to be rather informative."
"Who's that?" Tristano asks.
Gianni's eyes turn to slits. "Garrett Steelworth? How did he find this out?"
"Seems your cell mate has been around the block a few times," Papà adds, but the disapproval in his voice is clear. He's still pissed Gianni got arrested for punching a security guard at Cara's Fashion Week event.
Tully sets his cigar in the ashtray. He pulls an envelope out of his pocket and states, "We're in a prime position to learn everything those agents know about the Abruzzo and O'Leary operations. We take all six of them today." He walks over and holds out the envelope.
"What is this?" I question, taking it from him.
"Open it."
I obey, pulling out a wad of hundred-dollar bills. I lock eyes with Tully. "Why are you giving me this?"
"I already paid Ettore. That's part of your cut," he answers.
My gut spins, my chest tightens, and my fist curls at my side. I snarl, "That ring is worth way more than what's in here."
His lips curl. "You get the rest when you fulfill your assignment today."
Rage fills my bones. I fume, "That's Katiya's money. How much did you pay for it?"
"Anything that woman gets is a bonus. She would have gotten killed had anyone found out she had it. And it's time you told us how she got it," Tully asserts.
"That's none of your business," I hurl through gritted teeth.
His cocky expression makes his next statement worse. "Well, I suppose secrets between a man and his woman can still be a good thing in today's age. But is she willing to keep yours?"
I step forward so I'm inches from his face. "What the fuck does that mean, Tully?"
