Killian's smile falls. He tears his eyes off me and addresses Bridget. "Where's Arianna?"
"Talking to Massimo. You should go speak with them. Things aren't what you think," she replies.
He drills his green orbs into mine. "Is that right?"
"Yes, it is," I assert, trying to ignore my quivering insides.
"Katiya's your sister-in-law now, so you might want to offer her your congrats," Cara chirps.
He gapes then shuts his mouth. He licks his lips then questions, "You married Massimo?"
I lift my chin and sit straighter in my chair. "Yes."
"When?"
"Yesterday. At least, I think it was yesterday. The time change has me confused about what day it is," I confess.
"Where was this?"
"The Maldives."
"Tristano and Pina were there," Cara adds.
Killian scrunches his forehead. "Why were they there?"
"Oh, you know. Family business." Bridget bats her eyes.
"Such as..."
Cara shrugs. "You'd know more than us, wouldn't you?"
Killian shifts on his feet. "How would I know?"
"I think your dick gives you leverage in this family, doesn't it?" Cara quips.
Killian gives her an exasperated look then states, "I'm not answering that. Where's my wife?"
"Who knows where they went. Want some toast? I'll put some extra butter on it while Arianna isn't here," Bridget offers, waving a piece in the air.
Killian glances behind his shoulder then steps forward. He lowers his voice, "When did they leave?"
"A few minutes ago," Cara says.
He gazes behind him again then tells Bridget, "Go on, then. These pregnancy hormones have Arianna on a bigger health kick than normal. If she tosses my butter one more time, I swear I'm going to lock her in a room until the baby comes."
"Wow. You must really love butter," I mutter.
He locks eyes with me again. I think he's going to reprimand me about Arianna, but he claims, "It's not just butter. It's Irish butter."
"What's the difference?" I ignorantly question.
Killian scrunches his face. He shakes his head at me then instructs Bridget, "Please tell our new sister-in-law what kind of sin she just committed."
Bridget tries to hide her amusement. With a straight face and serious tone, she states, "There's nothing better than Irish butter."
I glance at Cara, who's biting her smile. I answer, "Good to know."
Killian grabs the piece of toast from Bridget and shoves it in his mouth, quickly chewing it until it's gone.
