He rolls his head until it's next to hers and whispers something in her ear.
She turns bright red and elbows him in the chest.
"Ow!" he cries out.
"Did you decide on a name for the baby?" I ask.
Her face lights up. "Nicoletta."
Gianni freezes. "After Mamma?"
Her eyes glisten. "Yes. That's okay, right?"
His voice softens. "Of course. Have you told Papà?"
"We were going to tell him tonight. Do you think he'll be happy about it?"
"Of course he will," Gianni asserts.
She takes a deep breath and smiles. "Are you still planning on coming to Chicago when the baby arrives?"
Gianni puts his arm around my shoulders, tugging me into his chest. "We wouldn't miss it."
"Did you finish the baby's room?" I ask.
"The crib hasn't arrived yet, but everything else is complete," Killian replies.
The divider window rolls down. Manny says, "Boss, Sandro said the back entrance is clear, but we can't stay parked there. We'll need to leave and return to pick you up."
Gianni's face darkens. He glances out the window then locks eyes with Killian. "Maybe we should go back home."
Killian shakes his head. "No. We've got plenty of backup."
"I really need to see the space we're working with," Arianna asserts.
Gianni stares out the window again, and I can tell he's counting in his head. My stomach flips, but I also want to do the best job possible. I put my hand on his fist. "I need to as well."
"We'll be fine," Killian assures him.
Gianni pauses but finally tells Manny, "Pull in the back. Stay as close as possible and keep watch for anything out of the ordinary."
"Got it, boss." He stops in front of the back door.
We get out, and bodyguards appear. They circle us, and Gianni guides me inside. When we get to the main area, a dozen professionals I've worked with in the past are here.
"Cara, darling," the stage manager, Carmine Duplane, exclaims while pulling me into an embrace. He kisses me on both cheeks then steps back and furrows his brows in disapproval. His voice seethes with disgust. "Gianni Marino. What are you doing here?"
I cringe. Carmine worked with me in Italy the last time Gianni left me. After weeks of avoiding everyone, Carmine came to my apartment. He let me cry on his shoulder, and then he made me get back to work. I vowed to him I would never again let Gianni back in my life.
Gianni sniffs hard and stands straighter. He holds out his hand. "Carmine. Good to see you again."
Carmine's eyes turn to brown slits. He ignores Gianni and pins them on me. "What are you doing with him, Cara?"
My stomach flips. Killian scoffs in the background, but I ignore it. I blurt out, "We're married."
Carmine gasps.
"Let's not be all dramatic," Killian voices.
