"I think we're due for some more lessons," Killian declares, his eyes traveling down her body, which only makes her blush deepen.
She ignores his comment, asking, "What are you doing here? I thought you were going into town with Massimo."
"He got a call and needed to take care of something. I thought I'd see if you ladies wanted to leave the compound."
My heart races faster. I've stayed inside the Marino mansion for the last few weeks. The only place I've gone is outside in the yard for some fresh air. Gianni said he's working on my security, but the men he trusts are coming over from Italy. He assured me they'll be in place and ready to go for Fashion Week. And after the last incident, I'm not fighting him about staying here where it's safe. I blurt out, "Gianni won't let me leave."
Killian's eyes light up. "Ah, but that's where you're wrong."
"I am?"
"Yep."
"How?"
"We're going to take Arianna's bodyguards and mine. Plus, Killian can help me shoot out of the car if needed," Gianni states, entering the room and bending down to kiss me.
"Are we going to get shot at again?" I fret.
Gianni's face falls. "No. Sorry. It was a joke."
"Not a funny one."
"Yeah, well, I'm normally not funny. That's Killian's job."
I tilt my head and put my hand on his cheek. "Aww. Sometimes you're funny."
"Keep telling him that," Killian taunts.
"Funny! So, I really get to go out?" I ask Gianni.
He nods. "Yep. And you're going to love where we're going."
I arch my eyebrow. "Where?"
Pride sweeps Gianni's face. "To your meetings."
Excitement fills me. I was supposed to check out the different venues today. Gianni had me cancel, stating it wasn't safe. "I thought you said it was too dangerous?"
"I convinced him we have enough backup," Killian claims.
I stare at Gianni.
"It's true. You can thank him." He points to Killian.
I turn toward him. "Thank you."
"No problem. How long until you ladies are ready to go?"
"I'm ready now," I proclaim.
"Me, too," Arianna adds.
We make our way through Gianni's wing and out to the garage. Three black SUVs are waiting. Manny gets out of the middle one and opens the door.
"Wow. We have our own entourage," I tease.
"Nothing but the best for my wife," Gianni replies.
