I frown. "Are you going to toss your cookies?"
She rises and hands the bottle to Killian. "Nope. All good." She smiles at Cara. "Let's go to Fashion Week!"
We leave the house and get into the SUV. A second one leads while a third one is behind us. It's dark, but the morning light is trying to peek through the clouds. Snow covers the ground. Ice hangs off trees. Dense fog blocks my vision past ten feet.
"Cara, make sure Arianna takes some breaks today," Killian orders.
"Of course."
Arianna groans. "Killian!"
"What?"
"I'm capable of figuring out when I need a quick rest."
Killian pins his orbs on Cara. "I'm serious. She never stops unless you make her."
"Can't help it if I'm younger than you and have more energy," Arianna teases.
Killian smirks. "More energy? Is that a challenge?"
Arianna's cheeks heat. "Sure. Bring it on."
I turn my head toward Cara, not wanting to think about what their challenge entails. I'm glad my sister is happy, but she's still my little sister. I say, "You'll have four guards watching you at all times."
She scrunches her forehead. "They're going to blend in, correct? So no one thinks they're mine?"
"That's right. And I'm not going anywhere today. If you need me and can't find me, just call," I add.
She tilts her head and strokes my cheek. "I'm sure I'll be fine. No one will get to me with four guards. Why don't you and the guys go do something fun?"
I grunt. "No way. We've already discussed this."
"Okay, then. Thought I'd give you one more out," she claims.
I lean closer to her, pinning my eyes on hers. In a firm voice, I state, "I don't want an out."
She smiles, and her blues glisten. I wasn't talking about the event, and she understood what I meant. It's a sign of how far we've come. She kisses the back of my hand as we pull up to the building and admits, "Me, either."
My heart soars. It's two words that never meant anything in the past but mean everything to me now.
The door opens, and cold air tears my gaze off hers. I get out, then hold out my hand to help my tesoro out of the car. "Let's see you in action." I guide her into the building. Killian, Arianna, and all the guards we assigned both of them follow.
Within seconds of getting through the show's security, Cara and Arianna go into work mode. As much as I planned on keeping her within eyesight, it's impossible. There are too many people who need her. She gets pulled into different areas, including dressing rooms I'm not allowed to enter.
When she completely disappears, my stomach flips. Panic grows, so I try to follow her into the room she's in, but the show's security guard stops me. "No one beyond this point unless you have clearance."
"My wife is Cara Marino," I seethe.
He puffs up his chest and steps closer to me, firmly restating, "Like I said, no one beyond this point unless you have clearance."
I square my shoulders. "Do you think you intimidate me?"
"Are you looking to get banned for the week?"
"Is that a threat?" I hurl.
"Whoa. Easy there." Killian grabs my arm and pulls me back.
