I close my eyes and plead, "Please. Let it go."

"I can't. You're my friend, and he doesn't deserve you."

I pin my gaze on Carmine, softly saying, "Please. I'm begging you."

He sighs, shaking his head. "Fine. But when he shows his true colors, you come to me. I'll make sure you take that bastard for everything he has."

I hold in my groan. Knowing Carmine the way I do, this is a good first step. And Gianni isn't innocent. I can't just expect Carmine to forget the past when I barely could. I rise on my tiptoes and kiss his cheek. "Thank you. Now, can you show Arianna and me what they plan on doing?"

"Who's Arianna?"

"My sister-in-law. The beautiful brunette. She was standing next to Killian."

"The arrogant ass who wouldn't keep his comments to himself?"

I cringe. "Yep. That's him."

"Poor girl, having to deal with that."

"While he is arrogant, he actually is a nice guy. Funny, too," I declare.

"Jeez, you are brainwashed."

I swat the back of my hand on his shoulder.

"Ow!" he shrieks.

"Oh, please. Enough of the nasty talk. Can you please be nice for my sake?"

"Why? What's your husband going to do? Lock you up and toss the key?"

"Carmine, please be nice," I beg.

"Ugh. Fine. I'll do it for you. But if Gianni steps out of line, he's going to have me to deal with," Carmine threatens.

"Deal. Now, show Arianna and me the floor plan."

"Okay, but I have a question," he says.

"What's that?"

"What does Arianna have to do with Fashion Week? Did you hire her as your assistant?"

I smile. "Nope. She has an amazing event planning business."

"Have I heard of it?"

"I'm unsure. She lives in Chicago, and most of her work is there. But she does a lot in New York, too."

"And she's good?"

"She's the best! I wouldn't want anyone else working on this event. You'll see!" I exclaim.

He scratches his cheek. "Did you know Michelle sold her business?"

Michelle is one of the top event planners in New York. I reply, "No, I didn't. Who bought it?"

"Casey."
