She cocks an eyebrow. "You want to go to the club?"
I nod, rage building in my stomach. There's no better way to catch a cheater than by busting in on them during the act. And seeing Dante with another woman will hurt, but it'll be the visual I need to end things for good with him. The last thing I'm doing is staying with an unfaithful man. I raise my chin. "Yes."
She squints. "I thought you said you never wanted to go there again."
"I did. Now I want to. Let's go." I grab cash out of my evening bag, toss it on the table, and rise.
Cara gapes at me then finally asks, "You don't even want to finish dinner?"
"I'm no longer hungry. Are you?"
Her lips twitch until she's wearing a full-blown smile. "Not for food."
I force myself to laugh. I'd rather cry at the thought of Dante in that club with another woman, but this isn't the time to be weak.
We make our way to the car. I instruct my driver to go to the club. When he parks in front of the building, I order, "John, my father isn't to know about this. Pull down the block and wait for me. I won't be long."
He hesitates, pissing me off further. I'm not ignorant to the fact that the moment he's away, he's going to notify my father.
I'm a grown woman.
Dad's going to be livid.
I'm not a child,I tell myself, to find the courage to do what I need to finally cut the cord with Dante.
Cara and I step out of the vehicle, quickly making our way inside. I follow her as she weaves through the club. We go into the elevator and up to the VIP floor. I scour the premises the entire time, but I don't see either of the Marino twins anywhere.
"There's Uberto," Cara says, beelining toward his suite.
The hairs on my neck rise. I grab her arm. "Cara, wait."
She spins, her eyes widening.
I declare, "Uberto is an Abruzzo. I can't go in there."
She shakes her head. "He isn't. He swears he didn't know Michelotto was working for them."
"He's lying, and you shouldn't be hanging out with him."
She glares at me, snapping, "Not you, too."
"Cara—"
She steps closer and lowers her voice. "Uberto doesn't lie to me. I don't care what Gianni claims. Uberto's not an Abruzzo. Gianni just wants to do the same crap he's done to me my entire life. Well, you know what? He's not pulling me back in. And honestly, your family wars have nothing to do with me."
"The Abruzzos are bad people, Cara. I know you think Uberto is innocent, but Michelotto—"
"Was just his acquaintance. That's it. Now, are you coming with me or not?" Cara puts her hand on her hip.
I glance at the suite. I don't see any Abruzzos, but that doesn't mean anything. I square my shoulders. "No. And you shouldn't go, either."
She sighs. "I'm not letting Gianni rule my life. I'll be in the suite when you're ready to join me." She spins and leaves.
I watch her through the glass. Uberto embraces her. I say a silent prayer that we're all wrong, and he's not with the Abruzzos, but my gut says he isn't innocent.
Find Dante then get out of here.
I glance around the club, attempting not to stare or look shocked about all the sexual acts going on. I roam the hallway, peeking in rooms to get a glimpse of Dante or Gianni, but they don't seem to be anywhere. When I get to the end of the hall, I go into the bathroom. I need a break from the atmosphere. Everything about the club makes my skin crawl, from the lewd acts to the fact that members of every crime family, both allies and enemies of my father, are here. It also includes the Rossis and Baileys.
