I flipped us around until she was beneath me and grabbed her wrist in one hand as I fucked her.

She closed her eyes, squirming beneath me.

“Damien.”

I closed my eyes, letting the sound of my name from her lips wash over me.

The darkness was still there, but it was pushed to the far back.

That darkness didn’t matter.

Not at this moment.

Right now, right here, there was only us.

And that was all there was to it.

I pumped inside her three more times, and with a groan, I came, burying my face in her neck, taking in her scent and letting it ground me.

She hugged me close, letting our chests push in and out against each other as we both tried to catch our breath.

Fuck.

CATALINA

I wiggleda little beneath Damien when his weight started to become too much, and he quickly positioned us back around so that he was underneath me.

His hands cupped my ass, and I pressed the side of my face against his chest, trying to catch my breath.

I smiled as I looked straight ahead.

Things weren’t exactly resolved between us.

I had a feeling Damien would keep needing to treat me like I was made of glass, but we were making progress.

I wasn’t naïve enough to believe sex would resolve everything.

But it helped show him that our relationship wasn’t as fragile as he was making it out to be in his head—that I wasn’t as fragile.

“Are you all packed up and ready to go to Arizona?” he asked me after a moment.

I nodded against him. “Yeah. I’m ready.”

I never thought I would have voluntarily returned to Arizona.

But Mikhail was right. I wasn’t going back there alone. I had my men, and what was more, they had driven Agnello out.

It was nothing more than an empty house filled with terrible memories that I could burn down.

I leaned back and took him in, my hand coming up to the scar on his face. He held still and let me do with him as I wished.

I never thought Damien could give up control, but he was doing it now, for me.

“Please don’t hide from me anymore,” I whispered. “I don’t like it. It hurts me whenever you keep your distance, but especially when you were taken away from me not long ago.”

He cupped the back of my head and brought my face down toward his in a quick, soft kiss. It ended so quickly that I didn’t even have time to close my eyes.
