“Ex-wife,” I clarified. There was only one woman worthy of the title of being mine, and she was currently back in my house, safe and protected by my brothers.
“How long has she been working with him?” I asked casually. I doubt there was anything he could tell me that I might find useful.
“Just recently. Please. I will tell you everything. Agnello went to her when you took out his operations. He w-wanted the kids.”
I met Gabriel’s eyes. At least fucking Leo did something good before he killed himself. He led me to my kids. Any later, and they would have been used as pawns against us. And it seemed Luis hadn’t been talking with Angelo in a while, otherwise, he would have known that I already got my kids out from under her fucking thumb.
I nodded. I was right. There was nothing he could tell me that would be useful to me.
“Time’s up,” Gabriel said unemotionally.
Luis put his hand up between them. “Please, Gabriel. I’m sorry. Please. I’m your little brother.”
I narrowed my eyes at the two men. It was no secret that Gabriel had spent his entire life protecting Luis from most of the harsh reality of growing up in the cartels. From a power-hungry father who cared about nothing else save for his criminal empire, including his two sons.
Would Gabriel go soft and let him go?
That would be a big mistake.
And if Gabriel didn’t take care of him, I would.
No mercy.
But then he looked over at me, and I knew what he would do.
I relaxed a little.
There might’ve been pain in them, but there was also determination.
He pulled Luis close to his body and hugged the younger man. I crossed my arms over my chest and waited.
“Gabriel—”
Luis’s words were cut off, and he looked at Gabriel wide-eyed.
I looked down to see blood dripping down to the floor between them. The men with Luis started to cry.
Gabriel twisted the knife he had in Luis’s stomach a little, and the other man gurgled.
“Time to go to sleep,” Gabriel whispered. “Little brother.”
More gurgling noises came out before Luis’s eyes glassed over, and finally, he was dead.
Gabriel let Luis’s body drop to the floor.
He looked at Maxim. “Kill them.”
Maxim nodded, and I walked out with him while the mess was being taken care of.
“You okay?” I asked quietly.
Gabriel turned to me and smiled. It didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Don’t tell me you're getting soft on me now. You love me?”
I punched him in the arm.
He grunted and held it there, laughing. I walked away from him with a grin on my face.
Fucker.
