And now, I was going to show him what the Bratva did for their friends.
I was going to help him get back his throne.
“Let’s go,” I said.
Gabriel pulled away and grabbed his bag.
I looked at my family before stepping into the elevator. The boys were standing close to Damien, each grabbing onto his shirt. Mikhail stood close to Catalina.
I kept my eyes on them until the elevator doors closed, showing mine and Gabriel’s reflections. We didn’t talk on the way down, but there was an understanding that passed between us.
It was time.
We had been picking at Agnello’s operation, cutting off his ways to make money. And when his associates heard he was going against the Bratva, most of them had turned from him.
That was one of the reasons we took Catalina in the first place.
She had been a pawn in the beginning—a very crucial pawn.
We took her to get Agnello to stop hiding. He could have avoided us for the rest of his life. He had the resources for it. But once we got her, he needed to fight; otherwise, he would’ve been branded a coward.
And no one wanted to work with a coward.
Now that we got most of his operations out of the way, thanks to the list we got from fucking Petrov’s house, he could only turn to the Cartels for help.
But he and the Cartels had a very dependent relationship with each other.
The Cartels needed him as much as he needed them.
With Agnello’s men and money diminishing, the Cartels no longer had Agnello’s resources and connections to back them up. They would turn on Agnello, making them easy picking for Gabriel and his men to attack.
And fuck, how fun it was going to be once we got to Mexico.
I was getting fucking bloodthirsty from the thought alone.
The elevator doors opened, and I grinned. Gabriel took one look at me and laughed.
“I can’t tell what that deranged look in your eyes is for. The bloodshed that’s about to happen, or some sort of depraved plan for Catalina once you get back.”
I patted his shoulder. “Both, sweetheart. Both.”
He shook his head and laughed once more as we walked out of the building and to the waiting car.
* * *
Two days later,we were hiding out near the base of the Cartels.
Word had it that Luis hadn’t left that place in almost a week.
The bastard was probably running around in a panic, knowing we were coming for him.
I met Maxim’s eyes to my right on the flat, deserted field.
Gabriel lay beside me as we tried to guess how many men were there.
The Cartels were high in numbers and had men all over the country and the borders, but their base was here. It was where operations took place, and it was where Luis went into hiding when he realized we had taken away Agnello’s power.
We got Luis’s head, and Gabriel could ascend the throne.
